The Write-Away Contest

A new year means new things and I'm happy to announce a new item here at Scribbit: The Write-Away Contest, complete with Valuable Prizes. You heard that right. Valuable Prizes.

The topic is Goals. Write a post about goals--goals for your blog, goals for your family, goals for yourself, goals you had in 2006 or for 2007, heck write about field goals if you're feeling cheeky. Write your post then email me the title and permalink at scribbit @gmail.com before Saturday, January 20th.

A special guest judge, Kathryn at Daring Young Mom, has graciously agreed to choose a winner based on the following criteria: quality of writing, applicability to the topic and overall ability to engage the reader. So if your post provokes a chuckle or moves her toward nirvana you may have an added advantage. I will post the winner here on Monday, January 22nd.

You may submit more than one post, so long as each is on-topic and clean. In each submission include a link to this page here at Scribbit and when the winner is announced I will post a list with links to each entry.

The prize you'll be writing for is an original ceramic plate, pictured above, from Anchorage gallery Artique Ltd. by artist Toni Maury. If you go to this link here you can see a sample of her work and a similar plate in blue. Very Alaskan, very classy, very cool.

But wait! There's more! In addition to being declared the Triumphant Write-Away Winner I have here this stylish button you may take home should you choose to flaunt your good fortune to the blogosphere. Good luck and good writing!

What a great idea! I guess I better start thinking up some goals!

  2. This is such a great idea!!! I would love to participate, but (as I wrote in my latest post) I'm not great at sticking to my goals -- at least the trivial ones. I'm so goal-oriented, it sucks. So, I'm taking a break. :) I'm going easy on myself and hoping this will enable me to achieve my more important long-term goals. :)

  3. My only goal this year is to learn how to play backgammon, so I doubt I could write anything good about that. But what a fun competition! I look forward to hearing how it all goes. :)

Funny that you should ask about goals. I was just thinking abou that. My secret goal is for us to move out of Florida. Don't tell my husband. He's not "ready" yet. Hmmph.

Oh, man. I totally missed the deadline.

So much for that. And to think that my goal was to enter more contests!

No, that's not really my goal. But one of my many goals for 2007 is to take more risks, and this would have been a fun one.

Since I missed the deadline, I thought I'd just dream a bit. After reading the comments here, I've decided a secret goal is to move into Izzy's house in Florida after she and her husband move out.

She wants out of that state, she said; I want in. Izzy, are you interested in the Midwest? Maybe we could just trade?

Glad to discover your blog, Scribbit.

Sorry to have missed the contest. It would have been fun to imagine Daring Young Mom actually perusing my prose.
