Okay in this season of Lent and confession and spring time rebirth I'm ready to come clean (and I'm not even Catholic.)
Anyone else eaten an entire 19.6 ounce round of brie?
Not at once sitting of course--heavens no--it took me a week, but down it went, slice by slice, nibble by nibble until that creamy goodness had gone the way of all flesh. So to speak.
I had bought it to make a batch of bread stuffed with apple, walnuts, figs and brie. It's tasty, trust me. Not that you'll ever know now.
I took the first slice thinking, "The recipe only calls for half of this, I can nibble a little slice and still have plenty . . . "
That was my reasoning for each slice I took out of the first half of the round. Then when I crossed the line into the second half it was, "Well, now I don't have enough to make the recipe so I'll just have to finish this off."
And that's how one eats 19.6 ounces of brie. What does your moment of gluttony look like?

This isn't my story, but my husband in his youth polished off an entire sticky date pudding by himself. And was very ill afterwards!
Mine looks like the way too many Purim Hamentaschen cookies my neighbor brought over that I polished off last wee. Oops.
Obviously that was supposed to be last "week". Oops again.
My moment of gluttony is a whole packet of chocolate chip cookies. I can't confess to anything ages ago - this happens in the present day.
1 cup of coffee
1 packet chocolate chip cookies
One after the other, dip, chomp, dip, chomp. That's enough. Ooh, just one more...dip, chomp, dip, chomp. Until they're all gone. In one sitting.
Happens every time. You'd think the solution would be: Don't buy them there cookies. You'd think.
How about a 9x13 pan of homemade toffee? Mmmm...
I've done that! And I've done it covered with caramel sauce and pecans. It's my favorite appetizer, and sometimes I buy the ingredients and make it for myself and nibble on it throughout the week. So you aren't alone! I've also been known to eat almost an entire batch of homemade cookies in 2 days. I think the kids got 4 of them?
Most recently, Thin Mint Girl Scout cookies - 1/2 a box. Next year, I am just giving our sweet little neighbor scout the money and telling her if she ever wants to darken our door again, she better not actually deliver any of my order.
I think it is totally cool that you get Président cheese in Alaska!
I'm not a huge fan of Brie - though I live nearby (Brie Comte Robert... Meaux... etc... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brie_(cheese)
I'm more a Camambert girl.
Bread. My weakness is bread. I have eaten an entire baguette, by myself, in an evening. I have eaten one of those bigger loaves of French bread, and (on a different occasion) a round of pumpernickel in less than two days.
mmmm droool... add some smoked trout (or salmon if I can't get trout) to that brie and I'm in heaven...

I am trying desperately to get Baby Wombat up-to-date before his first birthday, so there should be lots more to read soon... but between a shonky internet connection and a very active baby, I'll be lucky to get it done ;P It's 2am here now, & I am determined to write a childhood memory update for your competition before I pass out for the night!)

Well, for now at least, gluttony is on hold until my babe can tolerate dairy. But I can relate! And that recipe sounds divine. I hope you'll share it... you know, for future use. ;)
Oh yes. Not with brie, but with a similar-sized wheel of camembert. Oh I love me some camembert.
We won't even talk about the batches of cookies I've baked where only 3 of 5 dozen made it to the cookie jar because I had to "taste a few" of each batch to make sure they were good.
Oh, I can be very bad with cheese, but that's easy where I live. Today was a bad chocolate cupcake day though. My girls and I made some from scratch yesterday, and so far today, I've had five. they are little, though.
I can sooo do that with Brie. The kids don't much care for it, Tim will tolerate it, I love it! If I buy it, I basically get it all to myself, not sure if that is a good or bad thing. It isn't around for long!
Lindt truffles are my gluttony. I try not to count how many I have eaten in a day...but the number can get up there, let me tell you! Or, at the beginning of the year I was trying to lose weight, and I got so depressed not eating anything fun that I fell off the wagon and ate a ding dong, two candybars and a bowl of ice cream all in one day. Interestingly enough...I had lost a pound when I checked the next day. Must have been from all the sugar induced running around the house.
I've had more than my share of moments of gluttany, but two I can think of off the top of my head are:
1. The time when I was pregnant with my oldest son and I sat down and ate an entire McCain Deep and Delicious Marble cake.
2. My husband never buys me anything for Valentines day because he says he's not into mushy stuff. Every year I buy him tons of chocolate and hide it just incase he gets me something. Every year on February 14th when he leaves for work (he works nights), if he didn't get me anything, I eat all the chocolate I bought for him. So far I've been in chocolate heaven every Valentines Day night...
well, I just finished off a bag of mini robin eggs (you know, the candy coated whoppers) and I bought them yesterday...
I've eaten that much Brie during an IBM team meeting. No crap.
For me, it's the new American Idol Take The Cake ice cream. I blogged about it. It is my new boyfriend.
Evidently IBM is one classy company.
And don't think I'm a total heathen dog but I have a hard time telling the difference between brie and camembert.
My favorite recipe for it is the baked brie with garlic honey sauce (I still get two or three hits a day from people Googling that recipe that I posted last year).
Oh that is me with a bag of beef jerky or licorice!
mine is sneaky and bad. when i was 14 my dad bought a giant chocolate cream pie and i skipped it at dinner. then, the whole night long, i would just eat a tiny bit off the edges. until, in the morning, all that was left was like a fifty cent sized piece.
and in the morning, when my dad found it, i said, "it must have been helen" my stepmom, who often did strange things at night when she'd drinken too much. so he started teasing her about it, and the terrible thing is, she'd been drunk enough that she, too, just assumed she was the culprit.
Not brie, but close. I cannot keep frommage d'affinois on hand. I try and pace myself by eating it with pears, but it is still gone too quickly.
Half a box of thin mints here too. But that was only a couple days ago...I need to go find those little girls that sit out side my grocery store and get the chocolate covered peanut butter and wafer ones. Those won't last long either.
Oh another is homemade peanut butter cookies, or um, mini reses peanut butter cups. Hmmm. Notice a trend with peanut butter?? I love me some peanut butter.
While I was pregnant sick, I picked up a jar of kimchi and took a bite. It made me feel so much better I took another and another until it was all gone! (The spicy kind too.)
My heartburn that night wasn't too funny, though.
Kimchi? You know I've never tasted it. We had Koreans neighbors below us when I was pregnant with Grace and remember coming home from work and smelling kimchi all the way to the parking lot. Wow it was powerful. I don't know that I could eat it after the memories.
I can't stop when it comes to pasta and most carbs. I'd die on the Adkins I tell you.
i can't even begin to list all the things i've polished off. that brie looks very yummy to me right now! ;)
I've eaten a whole prepared box of Kraft macaroni and cheese before. Several times, actually. That would explain why I'm on Weight Watchers. ;)
Wheel of brie? In my sleep. Give me cheese. I love cheese. I can pass on the chocolate and the sugary desserts, but man, don't come between me and my cheese.
Fresh mozarella, regianno parmigiana, tripple brie, cammembert, roquefort, cave aged gorgonzola, chevre, stilton, havarti, gouda, edam, jarlesberg, sharp cheddar, feta, maytag blue, ricotta salata, vela jack, asiago, cotija, farmers, cream, havarti, swiss, colby, curds, raclette, liecester, cheshire, port-salut, lappi, beaufort, emmenthal, comte, manchego, paranno, alpenzeller, provolone, oaxaca...
I guess I should stop. But a wheel of brie? Again, I say, Bah!

Comfort foods for binge eating:
Cheese, homemade bread, olives, sun-dried tomatoes, mashed potatoes, and all sorts of unsalty smoked fish (i.e. smoked scotch salmon, whitefish, Sable, sturgeon.)
I definitely need to stay away from Bar Mitzvah buffets.
Sweets: Lemon meringue pie and pavlova. The Hamentaschen cookies bring back memories as does something called Teglach (only for the Jewish New Year.)
I gave up putting sugar in my tea coffee etc. for Lent. i've been a good girl.
My moment was when my MIL made brownies with fudge frosting , and brought over a few for my 4 yr (at the time) old and I. My daughter begged me not to eat them all while she was sleeping that night. I was indignant, and said, "Now, why would I do that?"
She said, "Because, you're a chawk- lit eater."
She went to bed.
I ate them all.
I was humiliated by my own lack of self control.

No, but I did just finish off an entire container of vanilla frosting, teaspoon by teaspoon. MMMMM....
Hmmm, my moment of gluttony? Homemade Rocky Road brownies with my yummy homemade frosting. uuummmm... frosting.... Seriously, just thinking of these brownies puts inches on my HIPS! We don't get them often...
Eating an entire bag of M&Ms is my gluttony and it happens more often than I care to admit! :P

Please tell me that you eat that delicious brie at room temperature, not straight out of the fridge with most of the taste chilled out of it.
