Gilligan Does Hamlet--And a Bit of Opera Too

Julie Thinking About (one of my favorite blogs) suggests that I watch this classic Gilligan which fits my list for today:

It's even got Carmen's "l'amour est un oiseau rebelle" in there for those with discerning tastes. I love this!

LOL! My children all gathered 'round for their very first taste of Hamlet AND Gilligan's Island. Perhaps they're too sheltered?

Always loved Hamlet. Now I have another reason to love it more.

  7. I've never gotten to play Carmen, which is a bit weird. I've always wanted too, though.

  8. This is one of my all-time favorite episodes (much to my mother's dismay).

Ginger was feeling down, afraid that her acting career was going down the tubes while marooned, and then Harold Heckuba shows up, and they put on the musical version of Hamlet.

Of course, he alone gets to go back to civilization and on the radio the castaways hear that Mr. Heckuba is truimphant with the genius idea of a musical version of Hamlet.

The beauty of Gilligan's Island is that they had all of this stuff with them on a three hour tour. Clothes, pajamas, house coats, chest of money for the Howells.

    That's great television.

I know diddly-squat about classical music or opera, so I couldn't have told you where the music was from with a gun to my head.

    Great find!

In all operatic fairness, you gave a shout out to Carmen, but the other two songs were equally good, the second "Belle Nuit" from Offenbach and "Toreador En Guarde" by Bizet.

Do not forget, stay out of debt! LOL

  11. About the costumes (I can't believe I know this) in one episode they found an air tight trunk in the bottom of the lagoon filled with old movie costumes - so I always figured they got them there.

I watched this show a lot when I was a kid.
