For the children's birthdays I make shaped cakes--pirate ships, Death Stars, killer whales, black widow spiders (yea, I go through a lot of black coloring). Some turn out better than others but this one passed and tasted pretty good too. Happy Birthday David.

That is an awesome cake!
ReplyDeleteWow, you are talented. I have always wanted to be able to do this, but whatever I do looks like some 2 year old did. Great job and great shot. Can I have a piece?
ReplyDeletethat is so cool - I love it!
ReplyDeleteThat is one cool cake! I'm impressed!
ReplyDeleteThat's really great.
ReplyDeleteI used to make some funky custom cakes, but somewhere along the line stopped doing it ...
That is fantastic. My Hubby used to make those fancy cakes for our girls when they were little. Great picture. Mine is up on My Photo Blog.
ReplyDeleteTotally awesome cake!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great cake! I'll have to try something fun for my daughter's second birthday coming up in June.
ReplyDeleteMy WW is up and I've got some big news to share with everyone!
That is awesome! My girls would love it if I could make cakes like that.
ReplyDeleteBlessings-

I love cakes like this they are always so fun. My sister does all the cake decorating for our family. I am challenged in that department.
ReplyDeleteI am a cake person too. I love the challenge, and when it turns out the way you planned it is that much more satisfying.
ReplyDeleteI made a fire truck for my son's birthday -- not good
A ladybug & daisy for my daughter -- It turned out fantastic!
Great job on the swimming pool...what did you use for the outside? Are those oreo graham crackers or something?
happy Brithday, David! Enjoy that scrumptious cake!
ReplyDeleteBTW, my BD is coming up soon! LOL
Happy WW! :-)
I always pegged that hussy Polly Pocket as being the above ground pool type. She's not all fancy like Barbie and her Malibu Mansion with a Jacuzzi and inground pool.
ReplyDeleteFabulous cake. Really, really fabulous! Happy WW and Happy Easter too!
That is totally cute! What fun!
ReplyDeleteWow, that's totally cool! I love it. :)
ReplyDeleteGreat job.
Wow! Cool cake! I wish I could have seen the "Death Star" cake. My kids would love that.
ReplyDeleteYour creativity never ceases to amaze me!
ReplyDeleteYou did a great job on that cake. I used to do that more but haven't mad a homemade one in awhile.
ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome cake!!!
ReplyDeleteI bake round cakes from the box, frost and sprinkle with confetti and I feel all Martha Stewart-y.
You put me to shame. SHAME, I say!
The perfect cake, but then I bet they all come out this well. Love the sides of the pool.
ReplyDeleteI fear the two I am about to attempt on the weekend will pale in comparison to yours :( Oh well...I'll try!
ReplyDeleteThat's amazing!

ReplyDeleteHappy WW
looks yummy and it's my favorite color! I usually irder the cake - yeah - call me lazy!! Happy birthday!!
ReplyDeleteFANTASTIC!
ReplyDeleteAs usual, Michelle, you share the coolest things with us. I wish I could do something like that! (There would be leaks in my cake, no question!) What lucky kids to have such a talented and patient mom!
ReplyDeleteHappy WW!
Fantastic job! I love the licorice ladder, I may have to steal that one :).
ReplyDeletewow, michelle! probably the best creative cake i have EVER seen. wow! excellent job!
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing cake! So much better than the icky grocery store ones. The kids must have just wanted to dive right in.
ReplyDeleteI'm bowing to you saying "I'm not worthy" once again. THAT is an awesome looking cake! Your kids are very fortunate to have a talented Mom.
ReplyDeleteI'm impressed. I was never able to bake cakes very well. Eat cakes---that I can do!
ReplyDeleteThis cake is so creative! I usually buy the huge Costco cakes for birthdays - good for you. You've inspired me to make a cake -off I go!
ReplyDeleteThat's an awesome cake!!!!
ReplyDeleteLovely cake - Happy birthday, David. God bless you.
ReplyDeleteJust marvy. I love the creativity...
ReplyDeletewell done, you!
LOVE IT! I am our resident baker as well. I can't stand the frosting from bakeries- too sweet. I have made pirate ships, pirate maps, fish, football fields, dinosaur environments, etc. Now I have a new one to try! Do you ever get ideas from Family Fun? They have some good ones!
ReplyDeleteI get a lot of cake ideas from Familyfun.com. The thing is, my boys don't particularly love cake, they just like having a cool LOOKING cake for their birthdays. We have done pirate ships, an alligator, a giant lego, thomas the tank engine, a car cake, a VW symbol cake (my son is a toy VW collector), various animals, trains, and etc. Today is #3's birthday, and he wanted a lightsaber cake. We will see how it turns out. I thought about the death star...how did that turn out for you?
ReplyDeleteYes I get a lot of ideas from Family Fun, they're a great resource. I also inherited my Mom's stack of magazine clippings with ideas from when she did it for her kids.
ReplyDeleteThose things around the side are graham sticks, not dog biscuits :)
And there's a reason I haven't posted pictures of the others--because it would be too embarrassing. I have to keep up an image you know! :)
The Death Star wouldn't have scared anyone, it was rather sagging and pathetic, though my kids too like the cool shaped cakes and not so much the taste.
My older children have started asking for real cakes that actually taste good instead of the fun shapes. Someday I'll post my recipe for the best chocolate dessert on the planet--it's to die for I swear to you--rather like a pecan crust with a layer of brownie with chocolate mousse and whipped cream. Fabulous.
And I'd love to see the light saber cake, Heffalump, my Jedis would love that one.
This is an outrageously cool kiddie b-day cake! I am so impressed!
ReplyDeleteHow perfect!
ReplyDeleteHappy WW
Please consider adopting me. My birthday is on the 29th. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a talent! And looks yummy too!
ReplyDeleteCool cake!!!
ReplyDeleteYou are so talented! My homemade birthday cakes taste great, but they sure don't look fun like that. "I'm not worthy!" LOL
ReplyDeleteCreative cake!
ReplyDeleteI bet they loved it!
Happy Birthday David!
Happy WW
That's Awesome!
ReplyDeleteYou are so creative! I love the licorice ladder!
ReplyDeleteTalk about setting the cake bar high? Yowza!
ReplyDeleteFabulous cake! You have a real talent there.
ReplyDeleteWhat a Betty Crocker you are! It looks fabulous!
ReplyDeleteYou amaze me! I took a cake decorating class and have yet to really use these skills like I should. This cake is totally inspiring me! VERY creative!
ReplyDeleteVery cool! We do wacky cakes, too. R2D2 once, a mudhole, barbie, volcano a few times... Guess I should say that HUBBERS does the decorating, I just bake the stuff.
ReplyDeleteVery cool cake! I've made castles, Elmo, a dogbone shaped cake. Each year I say I'll never do that again, and every year I'm trying out something else!
ReplyDeletethat's so great! where can i see more of your creations?
ReplyDeleteThat looks fantastic!
ReplyDeleteIt is impressive. And where do you get the time to come up with these ideas, shop, and create them? Not much to do in Alaska? Kids don't keep you busy enough?
ReplyDeleteThat is beyond adorable
ReplyDeleteWow! That's the coolest cake I've seen so far! The colors are fantastic and the figures in the pool are lovely. Can u please post the recipe? I'm sure your kids will praise u a lot for this wonderful birthday cake!
ReplyDeleteJust googled "swimming pool cake for kids" in preparation for my daughter's swimming pool party next week here in Argyll, Scotland and came up with yours all the way over there in Alaska! I love the internet. I too make cakes every year on differnet themes and have photos of every one (Except the pink Barbie castle one, different shades of pink icing throughout due to numbers of gins consumed in desperation whilst decorating said cake at midnight, I then dropped the memory card thingy out of the camera at a later date...probabaly still due to gin and lost all the piccies) for my three children. I love yours and will try to do something simelar. I will be glad of a change, we have had a bit of a run on Horses!Maybe there will be a photo on my blog if it turns out ok. Fee
ReplyDeleteThat is one great creation. that's totally cool! I love it.Visit the my stuff at aquabot thanks...
