Yea, you're seeing a moose on that telephone pole. Now don't get the wrong idea, I didn't take this photograph, my brother sent it to me and left me to track down the site it came from. The story is the telephone wires were loose on the ground for maintenance when a moose got his antlers tangled in the wires. The workers then raised the wires, pulling the moose into the air. Supposedly an actual police photo but I'm not sure if I believe it. It makes for a good story though.

Oh that poor animal! Certainly does make you wonder, doesn't it?
ReplyDeleteUm. Wouldn't the workers think, "Gee, this wire sure feels like there's a moose or something stuck to it!"?
ReplyDeleteOh, that's just wrong! That poor baby. So did it survive?
ReplyDeleteNow that's going to cause a lot of confusion!
ReplyDeleteCheers
I checked it out on snopes.com. It's true! Believe it or not.
ReplyDeleteawwww poor moose! Was it ok?
ReplyDeleteI am speechless.
ReplyDeleteGood someone went to snopes before me.
ReplyDeleteSad photo, hope it was dead already.
Okay that ones interesting....not sure what else to say...just very odd. Like damselfly I wonder how the workers didn't notice something odd when putting up there?? but who knows I've seen some pretty strange things!
ReplyDeleteHoly Smokes! I hope for the moose's sake that it is photoshopped!
ReplyDeleteThis isn't the Alaskan equivalent of cow tipping is it? Great shot. Great story.
ReplyDeleteAlmost unbelievable!
ReplyDeleteThat is just...ummm...wow. Will you tell us if you get confirmation, or follow-up of what happened next?
ReplyDeleteummmmm. wow. is all i can say
ReplyDeleteGasp! That's awful!!!
ReplyDeleteTerrible ! I hope they could get it down (if it was not photo shop)
ReplyDeleteWow! Poor thing. Happy WW. Thanks for sharing. Have a great week.
ReplyDeleteAngel Mama ( Pearls of WIsdom)
My eyes just did the cartoon pop out of the head thing! Egads! Poor Moose.
ReplyDeleteOh no! But seriously, how could that have happened??
ReplyDeleteNo, it wasn't dead and they ended up having to shot it due the fact it was in distress after it was lowered to the ground.
ReplyDeleteunsRutters and AP ran the story back in 2004. The workers were miles away pulling the heavy cables with a high powered winch.
ReplyDeleteYou have to understand moose are everywhere up here. Around 1,000 get killed each year in car accidents in Alaska.
that's horrible for the moose!!! He must have been terrified and in real pain... But wouldn't the wires have been real heavy and difficult to pull??? I hope this had a happy ending...
ReplyDeleteHoly Moose Antlers Batman!
ReplyDeleteThat's funny.
No way.
ReplyDeleteWay?
That is certainly an intriguing story. And I'm with damselfly here, wouldn't the workers get suspicious when they felt how heavy the line was? lol
Holy Moose! Poor guy.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness! I've never seen anything quite like that!
ReplyDeleteHappy WW!
That's hilarious! What a bad day for the moose.
ReplyDeleteYikes! I hope he was ok.
ReplyDeleteHappy WW, mine is up.
As many have mentioned before, this is a real photo. Snopes has the full story .
ReplyDeleteJust to clarify one point: no humans were pulling on the line to tighten it. They used a hydraulic winch (it didn't complain).
The moose survived being raised and lowered, but not the Dept. of Fish & Games, who shot it.
YIKES! What a photo......and a story! Happpy WW!
ReplyDeleteShame poor animal.
ReplyDeleteYikes, hope the moose got down and was set free. Poor thing. It does make for an interesting picture though.
ReplyDeleteYou are correct. It does make a good story
ReplyDeleteDont forget about the scavenger hunt at Amys Random Thoughts starting May 1st. Details to posted tomorrow..The more who participate the better..Hope to see you there!
Poor guy. That has got to be horribly painful. I wouldn't have believed it if it weren't for Snopes.
ReplyDeleteAs someone already probably told you, it's true! Here's the link from snopes.com: http://www.snopes.com/photos/animals/poormoose.asp
ReplyDeleteI sure hope that's not true! Although, you never know about some people these days!
ReplyDeleteDude. Duuuude. What a wild night. There...there was this moose (hic) and he and I par-tayed! WooHooo!(hic) He drank me under the table duuude! (hic) Wonder where he ended up...
ReplyDeleteFish & Wildlife had to euthanize it because it was too traumatized.
ReplyDeleteActually, the weight of miles of wire being lifted is much much heavier that the weight of a moose.
