It was like that in Jakarta. One of the first/best things we did was hire a driver. He was total lifesaver.

My husband did drive sometimes but we had a American van with the steering wheel on the left in a country where they drive on the British side of the road. When my husband was driving he would pull out to pass and my job was to scream if we were going to die. I screamed a lot.

More people probably don't die in traffic because if it is like Jakarta the traffic spends a lot of it' time hopelessly snarled up and moving very slow in the city. It is the outlying areas where there was less traffic that was scary.

One more thing, anyone who thinks that Indian car is small should come to Europe, those tiny smart cars are everywhere. You can park tow maybe three in the space my minivan takes up. And you are right they are a heck of a lot safer than a family of 5 on a moped. How do they do that?Shannonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12110115324050851439noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14194867.post-79471161711135285712010-03-30T19:33:08.317-08:002010-03-30T19:33:08.317-08:00I'll be in the bathroom. Seriously, though, it doesn't appear that the drivers pay any attention to the lines for the lanes. And, no helmets for the cyclists?
