Another Good Use for Ziploc Bags

In the spirit of Works for Me Wednesday, here's one of my better uses for plastic bags:

My kids love puzzles and games (especially puzzles) but those cardboard boxes are fragile and bulky and pieces are so easily lost, pretty soon you've got a cupboard full of smashed containers, Cootie legs, missing puzzle pieces and Candyland cards.

So as soon as a boxed item shows up around here I toss the box and put all the pieces into a one or two-gallon plastic bag. If it's a puzzle I cut the picture off the top of the box with a box cutter and include it in the package.

It quadruples your storage capacity (which is good as I've got four kids) and also works well for the read-along book and tape cassette combinations my kids love so much.

Check in with Rocks in My Dryer every Wednesday for other good tips.

Great idea! I love it!

I've posted a WFMW tip as well, involving a list of age appropriate children’s chores post!

Great idea. I use Ziploc bags for many things -- I don't know how people managed before those were invented! :)

I'm so scared to open my game closet! I just added Ziplocs to my grocery list so I can try this today. Thanks!

I found you through my sister's blog, Chronicles of Blunderview. I LOVE ziplocs, and have endured many years of gentle ribbing about it. Before drybags were invented, I ziplocked EVERYTHING for camping/wilderness trips. Especially my book; there's nothing worse than being in a tent at night after a great day of wilderness tripping and finding your wet book.

Ziplocs rule.

Love this idea - I also use Ziplocs to pack my kids lunches for school.

Keeps it dry and I can mark their names on the front.

Yay for Ziplocs!

An alternative to zip-close plastic bags are zip-close mesh fabric bags ( They're see-through like the plastic but they're more durable and of course, eco-friendly.
