Brayton Fire Updates

If you're looking for current information about the Brayton church fire, please scroll down to March 22nd's post "A Fire at Brayton Church" and click on the "comments" link at the bottom of the post. I list any information I've received and answer questions there.

Here's video of the chapel I took Saturday morning:

and video of the gym, the two most effected areas. Hallways and classrooms are wet, strewn with ash and debris, but remarkably intact.

Wow, Michele... So sorry to hear about your church burning down. Just so glad that no one was hurt.Sounds like it has been a fundamental part of your life.

Everyone will be at loose ends until you're in your new church, but before you know it, you'll feel settled there too.

Distressing scenes and an understandable emptiness for the community.

One can only pray for like that of the phoenix out of ashes a new church built by and for the community will rise again and strengthen the unity.

Blessings to you.

That is so sad. how did the fire start? I hope it wasn't arson. I'm glad no one was hurt but it's sad to loose such a special building you've grown up in.

After September 11th, I realized that nothing on this earth is permanent; it actually brought me closer to God.

the greatest sermon was on a mount - not in a building.

The building is temporary, but the foundation is strong and eternal.

My prayers are with you and your community.

I think that one of the hardest things to do, go back and see the damage that was done. It's so sad to see how much was lost.

good morning, scribbit. our brayton ward service was beautiful this morning. the church is the same, no matter what bldg we gather together in to worship together. and it was just awesome to get to see and hug my ward family and my primary kids this morning.

it was my honor to be asked to give the opening prayer. i also included your dad in the prayer, hoping that he bounces back quickly in his surgery recovery. i felt lucky to get to give the prayer and also to get to speak during the testimony time. it felt so peaceful to be in the chapel while the ward spoke and shared. everybody was so positive overall. everything goes on, just in different bldgs and homes for the time being. it's working out just fine.

overall, the church is still the same no matter where we meet :)

it's all good. i feel so lucky and grateful to be a member of this wonderful church. so glad i chose to become a member of our church 2 years ago. never have i felt greater contentment, joy, and peace since before choosing this church 2 yrs ago.

the best is yet to come.

God bless.
grateful to be Mormon! :)

I'm so sorry for the loss of your church. I hope that the support the members receive from each other and the community will provide solace and strength.

this is good. last night, our brayton ward young women (the laurels) did a great service project. they met at a youth leader's home (can't meet at the church since it is burned up) and made homemade cookies then delivered them to the fire station to thank the firefighters for fighting our church fire. the firefighters were pleased. one guy said he was on a diet, so couldn't partake :)

what a nice gesture. and one of the youth thought it up to do this.

scribbit, hope your dad is starting to feel better since his surgery last week.

I'm so sorry. You were really able to go in there? No structural damage after all that?
