Published by DK, which right there tells you it's a quality kid publication, it's a perfect book for October and the Halloween season. Get a load of some of the recipes:
* Three Bears Porridge
* Molten Lava Soup
* Swamp Rat Kabobs
* Swamp Slime with Maggots
* Mini Eyeball Pizza
* Non-poisoned Apple Pie
* Frogspawn Jell-O
* Beetle Juice Ripple
and of course Waffles a la Donkey
With helpful how-to illustrations and pictures from the movie on every page, this book will appeal to any child whose ever dreamed of eating swamp slime. The recipes are simple and straightforward with some traditionals like hamburgers, chili and pancakes but also some trendier foods like Puss's Purrfect Frittata, Renaissance Wraps, Speedy Couscous Salad, Royal Chocolate Truffles and Mini Meringues.
My kids picked out Swamp Slime with Maggots to try first (broccoli and curry over rice with a nice green sludgy appearance) and had a great time putting it together. Now they want to try Frogspawn Jell-O but I'm going to have to work up to that one.
Today I'm also throwing in a second book, Screamfree Parenting by Hal Edward Runkel, which teaches better parenting through keeping your cool (easy to agree with, hard to do--right?) The idea being that your children will be better behaved and will respond better to you if you set the example of proper self-control and restraint. Instead of child-focused techniques the book teaches parents to be more focused on understanding and controlling their own emotions.
So with these two books in hand you're ready to have the kids make dinner but to not get upset when they make a mess in your kitchen, right?
Here's how to win:
Before 12 am Monday go to the giveaway entry form on this page and enter your name and email. I will pick one of the names at random, contact the winner via their email and publish the winner's first name and home town in next Tuesday's post. See the bottom of the entry form for more details.
This giveaway is open to anyone, anywhere. Good luck!

I need both of these. The Shrek cookbook can keep my kids busy so I will have time to read the Scream Free Parenting book.
The Shrek cookbook looks like a lot of fun. I was just thinking about starting to bake with my 2 1/2 year old...
OMG! I'd have scream withdrawal if it were quiet around here!
Um...am I too late to enter? My kids are really getting into cooking and this would be a huge hit at our place.
