Halloween Cupcakes That Are Tricky and Treaty

Halloween CupcakesI was feeling tricky this week so we made cupcakes. Actually it was an extremely strategic move on my part because I really love my chocolate cupcake recipe--I could eat two or three before I realized the horror of what I'd done but I'm not that big on candy.

So . . . the obvious solution is to make cupcakes for the kids but to let them decorate them up with candy so that they get a treat but I am so far removed from temptation that I could sit in a room with these guys alone and never ever take a lick.

Halloween CupcakesOur monster bugs have coconut mixed into the green icing to give them that rough, alien look. The mouths are orange slices sliced in half, the eyes are Lifesavers with M&Ms glued in the sockets. Antennae are licorice strings.

Enjoy!

Here are some other great seasonal treat links:

* My Many Colored Days has cute little felt clips--in autumn colors they'd be so cute!

* Finding La Dolce Vita has Bones of the Dead cookies you'll have to see.

* The McIllece Spot has Pumpkin Fudge that really intrigues me--I want to taste!

* Witch Hat Treats from my own archives along with . . .

* A Ghost Cake with Flaming Eyes, again from the archives.

Wow these cupcakes look fantastic. I am also a voracious eater when it comes to chocolate cakes.

They're too cute! The remind me of these very clever horse shaped cupcakes I saw at the farm fall festival. W.W. had to have one of course. But the person who made them had used sugar wafers for the neck and head and then put icing for main and eyes. They were really cute. :)

So are you bugs!

Yeah, all that gummy stuff on top would keep me away from them as well. But they are very cute, so we might have to make some.

Too cute- I love chocolate cupcakes myself. Any excuse to get to eat works for me!

that would also be a darned good way of using up the candy after Halloween too.

We save a lot of our Halloween candy in the freezer to decorate the Gingerbread House we make for Advent.

For Halloween, we make homemade Caramel Apples.

Love the bugs! Heidi

Thanks for the linky love... and about the licorice laces, I love, love them. And I can never find them! Ugh! So frustrating. But so fun to use in seasonal kiddy treats. Very cute cupcakes!

These are adorable and so original! Did they have to go far to park their spaceship. We got our first big snow advisory for this weekend which made me think of you. Hope you got all buttoned up from your remodel before you had your first snow. I finished my last outside exposure wall today and it made a 4 degree difference in that room already!

Too cute! I'm gonna try to make those Oreo bon-bon things into eyeballs. I hope I'll get around to it AND get to post. Also, I found chocolate wafers this year! So I'm looking forward to making some of your adorable witch hats. Those I should definitely have time for.

Yum! I don't like candy on cake (something about the texture) but unfortunately for me I would have the kids make those cupcakes and then peel off the candy off a cupcake or three and eat them.

The cupcakes are very nice to look at
and the chocolate flavours will be good to taste. It would be intersting for the kids to eat.
