Two Years of Write-Away Contests

Clementines from SpainThis month marks a full two years of Write-Away Contests. Twenty-four topics, guest judges, prizes and winners.

Well I'm excited to provide more writing prompts and chances for fame and glory (heh) with yet another month and I'm going with a topic designed to help me forget the blackberry pie, homemade toffee, truffles, scalloped potatoes and 14 pounds of cheese I've consumed in the last two weeks as I'm back on the treadmill, sweating it up to work off those pesky pounds.

The topic is "The Finish Line." You can think about your personal goals or relive your latest marathon, whatever strikes you but in keeping with this health-conscious theme this month's prize will be completely non-fattening: a crate of fresh clementines from Spain.

If you haven't had clementine oranges they're smaller than navel oranges but very sweet and easy to peel, we all love them here and a crate of fresh fruit is always a nice summery thing in the middle of winter.

Summer from Summer's Nook has won my heart by agreeing to serve as this month's guest judge so I'd say we're off to another great year of writing. To enter please follow the directions below:

1. Write a post or find one in your archives on this month's theme then email your post's permalink to me at scribbit at gmail.com. The permalink is the URL of the individual post--not the URL of your blog--usually found by clicking on the post title or time stamp and copying the URL that appears in the address field. I will accept entries through Wednesday January 21st. If you fail to meet the January 21st deadline I will still happily publish your link with the list of entries but it will not be judged. I reserve the right to reject submissions if they fail to meet the topic or if they contain objectionable content.

2. Publish a link to the contest page here at Scribbit in either your entry post or in a separate post. I'm not picky how you do this, just give the contest a little mention as a courtesy and nod back. Don't stress over it because I won't.

3. Check back here on Friday January 23rd when I will post a complete list of the entries along with the Write-Away Winner and three Honorable Mentions.

4. Please remember: I will list the entries along with a small teaser for each. Just the first sentence or two of each post to give people an idea what they might expect if they should be so bold as to click on the entry.

Also, please be aware that while you are welcome to include graphics or photographs with your entries the judge will only see the text of your post. No links, no pictures, no name of your blog, nothing that might identify it to the judge. While visual posts are always beautiful to see on your blog I will only send the text to the judge and your entry will not be able to rely on visuals to influence their judgment.

I'm sorry if this makes it difficult, there are some amazing photographers out there, but it is a writing contest and I'd like to keep things focused on words.

As always, all featured winners will get to take home this attractive Write-Away Winner button which he or she may display in their side bar if they wish.

Dearest Scribbit, You need to come on down south. New Orleans has been my location for the holidays. You don't need a treadmill. It's going to be 75 today. And.... we have Louisiana satsumas, which look like those clementines. I pick 'em in the backyard. And cheaper for you to ship to me when I win the writing contest. I return to Honduras this weekend, and the citrus are being harvested there, and I can buy a sack for 50 cents. Not as alluring as Spanish clementines, but you could save on shipping and just say, these clementines are from Spain. If win, I won't tell anyone. Enjoy your sand and sun in Alaska.

Hmm cheese is one of my weaknesses too, but 14 pounds in 2 weeks! Now I won't be able to see your 'S' Scribbit logo without also seeing Desperaux!
Cheers

Oh Clementines. They are so good and juicy and fresh tasting. Good luck to everyone, I'll be sitting on the sidelines drooling.

A friend of ours gifted us a crate a few years ago. It has been a crazy love affair ever since.

Sounds like a fun contest. and awesome prize... it would be fun to join but who am I fooling. I'm not a writer, plus I'm the un-expert on health-conscious themes. I'm still in sugar-stupor from over-indulgence during the holidays. But good luck to all the contestants!

Hmmm. I keep hoping your topic will just jump out at me and I'll know immediately know what to write.

Looks like I'm gonna have to actually work for it.

And since I do not like exercise (just ask my Wii Fit trainer), I'll have to find a creative way to at least pretend to be healthy.

Tall order. But you just might see my link...

Wow, two years of Write-Away Contests! Give yourself a pat on the back while you're on that treadmill. Thank you so much for asking me to be a guest judge in the past. I was honored.

lol - well, if I win I think I would have to donate as we have some fairly strict import regulations.

But I will do my best to get my entry in this time...

Oh, how I adore Cuties. I could eat them by the crate. I don't believe I've had any from Spain. I'd love to try a taste comparison to the ones we get here in California. Now, if only I could win!

I grew up south of New Orleans, eating Satsumas like there was no tomorrow. We'd peel them and push our fingers through the middles, pretending they were little pumpkins. Sweet and juicy!

My entry should go live sometime on Tuesday.

Clementines or Sweeties are so good! We all love them in our house. It's so nice to hear my boys ask for a Sweetie instead of junk food! yum. <3

Scribbit: Another entry.

http://glacier-racing.blogspot.com/2009/01/finisher.html

Also: I own the house you had before your incredible remodel. Same floorplan, same builder, in Eagle River. We bought from an retiring Fort Rich officer desperate to leave. He never updated ANYTHING. Same black stone hearth, cheesy brass fixtures, uneven tile countertops, popcorn ceilings. We are debating remodel vs. starting over.
And: Had anyone bothered to let us know we were facing -30 deg for an extended time we'd have never crossed the mountain from Valdez! I know, I know, The town of Chicken hit -68, and REAL alaskans don't whine, but SHEESH, I'm limited to cleaning and hovering over the computer writing for citrus...

My entry is a result of my workout madness. I am a fitness teacher, and I should know better. Here it is: extreme Muscle therapy.

Thanks for the contest.

Mine's up now, a re-write and I've put a link to the contest at the bottom as I wasn't quite sure where to put it. [I'll move it or do it differently if you can give me a hint?] However I'm not sure how to link it directly / enter the contest [must have a tired brain today as I know I've managed to do this before somehow or other!]
Cheers
