Needless to say it's played havoc with my garden and my strawberries are only just coming on though despite this I think I'm going to plant another strawberry bed in the back yard (away from the moose) because my strawberries have done so well--even these guys.
Here are the ones that win the day's Mutant Alaskan Strawberry prize--I suppose that's what I get for dumping that radioactive waste into the compost pile.

Yummy, send some to me please...mine were a dud this year :(
ReplyDeleteI love the little old man strawberries! Too bad they won't keep - you could send them to Saxton Freeman and Joost Elffers -- they'd be famous!
ReplyDeleteM
Heh, they look like molars. Tasty molars though. I have that same bowl too!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful crop!
ReplyDeleteHuh! Gives a new meaning to 'organic.'
ReplyDeleteCheers
Those strawberries are so funny looking! Yeah! You got some sunshine!
ReplyDeleteI feel so bad that you're having a crummy summer. Our June was like that, and I'm still recovering from the fright.
ReplyDeleteLove your strawberries -- ALL of them. I could show you a few crazy carrots from my gardens of yore. Mutant vegetables.
I just adore strawberries!!
ReplyDeleteThe sun really can make a difference in one's mood. I've heard it said that in places where there is less sun, there is higher incidence of people with depression and other emotional disorders.
Ohh, strawberries are really hard to grow here in the desert. You need lots of shade and water. Those look yummy even the mutant ones. Oddly enough I have a mutant or blessed vegetable on my blog today too.
ReplyDeleteWow - they sure look yummy. Funny shapes though!
ReplyDeleteI like the ugly ones myself. Sometimes I even find ones like this in the ones I buy at the store.
ReplyDeleteWhere's global warming when you need it?
ReplyDeleteMan do those look good - even the weird mutant ones. We've killed our last three batches of strawberry plants before they had a chance to produce.
I think there is just something about growing them yourself that makes them taste better.
ReplyDeleteYou picked these from your own garden??? Cold days or not, it sounds like Paradise to me!
ReplyDeleteRadioactive waste? Coming from Alaska I (almost) believe you! Those do look yummy - I wish mango season would kick in soon so I could stop being jealous.
ReplyDeleteThose strawberries remind me of that food artist- has some children's books, I think?
ReplyDeleteWhat a blessing to have your own strawberries!
:)
Mutants are so fun! Well, they're fun until we eat them.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to share our heat with you. Tomorrow we're going to break a 107 year record of days above 90 degrees. Not only are we going to break it, it's going to shatter with a large crash and reverberate for several more days. I figure the weather will break and it'll rain the day the patio guy comes to start work on the backyard.
ReplyDeleteHello from a fellow Alaskan. Im in Fairbanks. Someone who was participating in the Bloggy Giveaway sent me your way! I love your strawberries. I can't wait to pick some blue berries! :) Its been horrible weather up here - rainy and cold. Last summer was my first summer up here and I got spoiled! However, it will be my third winter!
ReplyDeleteThose look scrumptious, especially the mutants!
ReplyDeleteThose sure are some funny looking strawberries. On another note I wish I was complaining that it was to cold. Here in NC it has been 90 degrees and above. For far to long with no end in sight.
ReplyDeleteI lived in Alaska for a summer as a kid. Tatitlek to be exact....how I wish I could have some Salmon berries.
ReplyDeleteStrawberry fields forever, is my favorite fruit.
ReplyDeleteI accidentally grew strawberries the first year I was in Kentucky. We didn't know they were there. There were tons and they were huge. I haven't tried any here. We don't have much sun. I'm trying some peppers and a watermelon in what appears to be the sunniest spot. If they do well, we'll do some more next year.
