The origins of some of these names make them even cooler. Aleknagik Lake is a lake near Dillingham that is off of a fork in an old trail. Most people took the trail to get to the other lake (I don't know the name). If you took a wrong turn, you ended up at Aleknagik Lake. I'm told the first part "Alek" roughly translates as "doh!" (think Homer Simpson) and "nagik" means "wrong way."
