We have friends in North Pole, AK. He's a pilot who helps out various missionaries and churches in the area.
You said, "I’ve wondered if when my children grow out of childhood and into adolescence if I’ll run out of entertaining things to write." I have two in adolescence now and one on the other side at 22 -- you'll still have plenty of entertaining things to write. :) Getting them to let you might be the problem, though, LOL!
