Behind the Spam: The Great Alaska Shootout

We had tickets to the championship game Saturday between the Loyola-Marymount Lions and the University of California Golden Bears. Our hosts were rooting for LMU but it was hard not to cheer every time Devon Hardin put up a sweet up-and-around shot or Avinde Ubaka (seriously the coolest name in the NCAA--I think he comes from Tatooine--say it with me: "Avinde Ubaka, Jedi Knight") sank a three-pointer. Final score: UC 78, LMU 70.

We had the good fortune to sit at half-court, 4th row, across from the ESPN cameras which ensured that every time that red light went on and the cameras panned the crowd, Spam Head came out. You may not be able to tell from my extremely blurry picture (hard to sneak a shot, it was the best I could do--someone send me a camera phone!) but her hat is a foamy can of Spam, replicated exactly down to the caloric and nutritional info on the side.

I think she got her 1.5 seconds of fame (if you were watching the game maybe you saw her) but little does she know she'll be forever immortalized in this humble blog.

I like Spam, but don't think I would wear the hat (smile)

Wow, were you able to see past her head? And some people complain about tall people sitting in front of them in movies. :-)

Oops! You're right I switched the names, the Golden Bears and the Lions. The game started at 9pm so can you blame me for being a bit sleepy and messing it up? I'll have to change it.
