Holy Magic Erasers Batman!

These little beauties have been out for a year or so but if you haven't yet tried them you've been missing out. They claim to be magic and that's not far off. I have two hallways in my home and twenty little boy fingers that are constantly leaving black marks and streaks on the walls and these things do the job.

They're a little pricey--here in Anchorage each eraser works out to about $.75 -$1 a pad--but these super-sponges are worth it.

Claiming to be chemical-free but using "Melamine foam" (whatever that is, sounds rather made up to me), they'll clean almost any surface without scratching and don't leave a film like other cleansers will (Soft Scrub or Ajax). If you only have a small clean up job I've found that by letting them dry out you can save them for the next job if they still have super-stuff left in them.

Here is a site that will give you a free sample and here is the Mr. Clean site that gives you suggestions for using their product.

Now you don't have an excuse--go clean those walls!

Ooh, that sounds very useful!

My secret find has been these Tide To Go cleaning pens. They're great! Clean people may not find them as useful as I do, but I am such a slob; always spilling stuff on myself.

I love those things!!! I once used one to clean my cat's dried vomit off the wall (I know, don't ask) and it worked after NOTHING else would work. It is a miracle cleaner.

"chemical free" - HA! that makes no sense. But I love those erasers, they are one of my favorites.

I love these, too. They are for adult use only though. They've been known to cause chemical burns. More info here.

Please be careful!

they've been out for over three years and aren't for use everywhere as they scratch some surfaces or leave a residue on others.

I do love me some Magic Erasers, but be careful if the kids ever use them, as they can cause burns and abrasions. I didn't believe it either, but I've read enough about it that now I will be more careful. Apparently Poison Control says the sponges have a PH of 8-10, which can cause a reaction in some people.

Yeah., the stuff about the burns freaks me out a little.

Oooh. Don't mean to be a spoilsport but I read another blog (can't remember which or I'd link it here) about someone's child getting terrible chemical burns from these. Just so you know.. google it if you are concerned.

Melamine foam is actually a very, very small (almost microscopic) sponge made from... melamine! Which is a plastic material - you probably have some if you buy hard, opaque plastic bowls or plates. I think Corelle is melamine and glass mixed together.
I cut mine in half, or even fourths - I usually don't need a whole one for the job and getting it wet makes it melt faster.
Be super careful, though - they are very dangerous to sensitive skin and kids! I posted about a week ago on this:
