Some have alarm clocks, we have Spencer.
Thank goodness for Star Wars--he's learned to play by pounding out those tunes, it's the only thing that keeps him coming back to the keyboard--and he's not too bad.

Wow! He's actually really good! I wish I had learn how to play the piano when I was younger!
That is good! I used a similar "ploy" on my brother (who is 10 yrs my junior). He wasn't a big fan of reading books...until I took him to see Lord of the Rings #1. The next day I got a loud, "Hey! Did you know those are books and there's like, 3 of them?!" on my answering machine. *Sigh* manipulation is great...
Seriously! That is great! He wakes up before you and practices without being threatened?! Where did you find him?
We REALLY have to get these boys together. Ethan can play the Imperial march while Spencer does Luke's theme. Maybe Spencer's good practicing habits will rub off a bit on Ethan too. He would never in a million years get up voluntarily and head for the piano.
Pretty great that he practices on his own in the morning like that! Fun video.
He is really good! Great video.
At least it sounds like he hasn't gone over the "Dark Side" yet....unless of course, it's his evil plot to awaken you like that each morning.
It is things like wanting to know how to play Star Wars music or Phantom of the Opera music that get kids interested in playing the piano or any other instruments. In my country, Malaysia, kids play the piano for the sake of passing exams (very British style) and pleasing their parents, and not for the fun of playing the piano.
You are lucky in your son. (I realize that 'luck' is what you make of it, but still.)
My sister used to play, hour after hour, and I still miss it, 40+ years later.
(Never mind me; just passing through - Taro.)
I am a piano teacher and that is how I hook my students. Find something that interests them and then look for music in that theme. Once they start to learn that piece, they usually start to practice the lesson plan. Works every time.
Good going Spencer, keep up the good work!
LOL. :) At least he practices. I remember how I dreaded practicing. Why can't we just suddenly become GOOD at somethin!?
Can you tell me where you got the sheet music? I'd love to have that so that I can get my son to learn piano.
