August's Write-Away Contest

Moose's Tooth PizzaAre the days getting shorter already? Time is just slipping by and here it is nearly time for school to begin and time for another month of The Write-Away Contest. Still up for it? Well this month's topic is a little different, I'm calling for submissions that have to do with collecting. Posts about your collections, things you've collected, what you wish you'd collected in the past--serious or funny, however you'd care to tackle this. I want to see what gets you excited and scampering to ebay.

If you'd like to participate, here are the rules:

1. Write a post or find one in your archives about collecting, collections or a collection of yours. Email your post's permalink to me at: scribbit at gmail.com any time through Wednesday August 22nd. If you fail to meet the August 22nd deadline I will still happily publish the link to your post and include it in the list of entries but it will not be judged. I reserve the right to reject submissions if they fail to meet the topic or if they contain objectionable content.

2. Publish a link to the contest page here at Scribbit in either your entry post or in a separate post.

3. Check back here on Friday August 24th when I will post a complete list of the entries along with the Write-Away Winner and any honorable mentions our judge sees fit to award.

Our guest judge this month is Jenn from Something to Say who has collected plenty of stories about her life in the Netherlands and plenty of Write-Away Contest awards both as a winner and as a runner-up/honorable mention. Jenn's a mom and a wife, has a funny sense of humor and is an excellent writer who gives great peeps of her life on the other side of the world (at least it's the other side from here).

This month's prize is a t-shirt from Anchorage's famous Moose's Tooth Pub and Pizzeria (where I tend to collect pounds). If you ever come to Anchorage you'll have to stop by and try their food--it'll be the only time you'll get gourmet pizza and homemade cream soda served by an waiter sporting dreadlocks and tattoos. I think it's part of their hiring process, getting one's very own dreadlocks--easier than a hair net evidently.

But anyway, Moose's Tooth is probably the coolest restaurant in town, I would recommend trying the wild mushroom pizza with Denali sauce or the veggie sandwich--I'm a walking menu and could recite the whole thing on demand. The t-shirts come in long or short sleeves, tie die or plain blue or black. You can see the store here. You can pick your favorite and I'll have it shipped to your door. Pizza is extra.

But besides this the winner and all runners-up or honorable mentions (I leave that up to the judge to award them) will also get to take home this attractive Write-Away Winner button which he or she may display in their sidebar if they wish. Write-Away Contest Winner

And in a side note--can you believe it? I've had a tragedy of Major Proportions occur. I accidentally deleted my entire list of RSS feeds. All 200+ gone like that. I'm having to slowly replace them but have to go back through my comments to do so. If you haven't left a comment in a while please do so so I can remember to add you back on my list. I'm a klutz, what can I say?

Love the prize! If only the pizza was as portable. Yum.

The prize sounds interesting enough to bare the soul of a quiet collector. I LOVE your garden post - what a victory you must feel about your garden!

Yikes! I am so afraid of doing that too!

I subscribed to you with RSS and still check it this way.

Collecting? This could be fun. Ah, where to start...

I wish the prize could be a pitcher of homemade cream soda. Hmmm, do I dare share my dirty collecting secrets with the world? But if I win a moose t-shirt I could add it to my pooping moose candy dispenser, and Voila! I would have started a moose collection. I'm in!

OMGosh! How do you delete your RSS Feeds "just like that"? Please tell me so I will never do it! LOL

Sounds like a good topic, but I'm not sure I'm ready to admit what all I have collected.

I won't be 'playing,' but I can't miss the opportunity to glory [sorry, I think I mean commiserate?] that even experienced bloggers can sometimes be all thumbs too!
Yours the technically challenged one!

One of these days I will remember to enter this contest!

Should I ask what Denali sauce is? ;)

This sounds like fun - I'll have to try it! Collecting, huh...

Don't you HATE it when stupid computer things happen? I'm having trouble, too, today.

Now, collections... Hmmm.... I haven't entered in awhile; your themes are hard!

Hi lady,

What's growing in your garden is so cool! Am envious. I need to check through your archives for gardening advice. :-)

Hope you are great.

I'm not sure that I want to talk about my current collection - dust and dust bunnies! But I am running a non-contest concerning the first time one left home to attend college. All are welcomed to participate!

Good luck!

Interesting topic. In my adult life, I've stopped collecting. So it would mean either to bring the memory gap or wishful thinking about collecting. This is a definitely kid-friendly topic, at least in my eyes. Now, if I could only see what's up for grabs?

Ooooooh, I like that topic. I know my matchbook collection from when I was 13, 14, 15 is totally boring, although the fact that it eventually faded to nothing due to my constant need for matches to light my cigarettes and, um, incense might make for some good blog fodder! Sorry about the RSS feed mishap. You be careful out there!

I like this idea. Though I stopped collecting Stamps and Snails (when I was little). Yes I used to collect snails!
I will think about it some more.I might be collecting something and not even know it!

BUT I wanted to say that I Went to the MOOSE place and LOVED IT!
I LOVE ALASKA!!! ;-)

My sister loves Moose's Tooth. I think if I don't get my act together and come up with an entry this month, I'm just going to start making her get all your prizes and mail them to me just for being her sister...of course, that won't help with the coveted Write-Away button...

Good luck with the feeds!

Scribbit said...

Well Sabine and M that just proves you're already cooler than cool can be if you know about the Moose's Tooth.

And you could also write about old collections, things you used to collect as a child and what happened to the collections.

Hello michelle,

Grace of sandier pastures gave me the link to your site and to the page of the "August's Write-Away COntest." She's a good friend and told me that you are having a contest about collections. Can I join too? I'd e-mail you the permalink of my blog page about my stamp collection.

Thanks,

divine :-)
