Whew! It took me five weeks but I've finally finished it. I had to knit the hat twice (the first time it came out so big it would have been loose on a basketball) but it's finally done.
Occasionally I will get hit with the urge to knit and a month ago I jumped into a reversible parka designed by Jill Eaton in her book Minnowknits Too and have been busily knitting and purling ever since.
Because the jacket is reversible it was like making the same sweater twice, then there was the border, then there were the ties (an especially cute design) and the appliquéd design and then the HAT! Great googly-moogly, I should win some kind of an award for this much knitting!
I've never knitted anything in more than one color so the Twizzle Top hat was a big thing for me and then to have it on double pointed needles was extra challenge but after knitting the whole darn thing twice I was finally able to get it together enough to have it come out pretty cute. Did I mention that I had to knit it twice?? Ack! What a disaster.
Now that I know how to make it though I was thinking of making another hat and posting it in my Etsy store. Or maybe I could just sell the first one I made--anyone out there with a head as big as a watermelon??

Very cute colors! Nice knitting work.
That is absolutely ADORABLE! The sweater would make a perfect winter coat for Maya if only I could convince her to stay out of mud puddles. You done good Michelle.
It looks amazing.
Congratulations on a job well done.
The first hat WAS a bit big, but you did a lovely job on the knitting. Lucky little girl (or shall I say young lady?) !
Wow what a lot of work! Turned out adorable tough :)
Adorable!
My head is big, but pink is not my color, What about Andrew? He knows he wants to wear that. Show some support for his wife!
wow, you are amazing! that set is soooo cute! teach me your ways!
Color me impressed! I can sew, but knitting, that's a different story...
Oh my goodness! Too adorable!!!
What a way to spend a weekend! Was it RAINING? It turned out beautifully - what a lot of work, but what a great reward. I hope she wears it with pride for years to come. I STILL wear a sweater my grandmother knit for me when I was 11. (29 years old, it is!)(She made it nice and roomy, like your first hat!) It is the single BEST article of clothing I have ever owned and I brag about my grandmother whenever anyone says anything about how nice it is. I hope you get some braggin' too! You deserve it.
It looks great! I prefer crochet but maybe someday I'll try my hand at knitting again.
Oh that is just beautiful! Great job!
I envy your knitting skills. My friend attempted to teach me to knit a few weekends ago and I just can't seem to get it. Beautiful work!
Those are adorable! Maybe I'll have to take up knitting again - I've been crocheting instead, but there are so many cute things out there to knit as well! Not to mention that my 6-year-old has been asking how to learn... :)
Oh Man! I wish I had that talent!!!!
That is a gorgeous set!!!!
WOW! I knit all winter, but I've never done anything that complicated. Totally impressed! If I had a watermelon head, I would buy your big hat.
(The first sock I ever knit was big enough to probably fit Shaquille O'Neil. We laughed and laughed. Then I cried because of all the work down the drain...)
Ambitious, that's what you are... in a good way. I can't knit to save my life.
Way back in the 80's I tried to knit some really classy neckties...(they turned out scary). Fortunately they all disappeared.
That would be my head I think!!!
This is so cute. I don't knit but you do beautiful work!
Great googly-moogly is right! That is so amazing, and you did all that in just five weeks?!?!?! With every post of yours that I read I am more amazed. I tried knitting a scarf... "tried" is as far as I got.
Perfect, every gardener needs a watermelon cozy.
I love the idea of a reversible jacket, not sure I could do it. RIght now I'm on my third knitting of the same little sweater vest. @#$!
Just darling.
Must. Resist. Urge. To start another. Project...
Wow! Beautiful knitting, and I love the colors!
Ooh, ooh, I know. Just call the first one a tea cozy.
Niiiice! Great job with the knitting - you are truly my hero! I could never accomplish all that (no matter how long you give me to get it done!) You should sell the first one - it's a total Scribbit original!!
You are a knitting goddess, woman. Me likey lots! You did a fabulous job.
I know a few men that do.
Have heads the size of a watermelon that is. they probably wouldn't like the pink!
Baby Bug has a pretty big head. It might fit her. LOL!
My, such talent!
Scribbit that is really cute!!
I can crochet all kinds of things but have never been able to get knitting.
WOW.
I just pretty much stayed in bed and read Jane Austen in my flannel jammie this weekend. Plus, when I knit it turns out WAY too tight. My first scarf ended up being used as a barbie scarf for my friends daughter. :S
That set is darling! You chose an ambitious project -- congratulations of the great results :-)
WOW! i love that sweater! I can knit but not on that level! Great job!
You ROCK, Michelle! You did such a beautiful job and you should be really proud of yourself. I admire your mad knitting skills!
How very cute!! I envy your ability to knit! {Sigh} It's on my life's to-do list.
That is absolutely stunning! You should be very proud. I am in awe!
Wow, that's wonderful work. And hey, it's too bad I live in Florida where a hat like that is useless. I have a pretty massive cranium, and THE BIG HAT just might fit me;)
WOW! Very nice! I used to knitt! Now I have no time! ;-)
ONe day! That is really cute!
My son's head is rather large, but I don't think pink is his color :) !!
I bow to your domestic prowess. Wow.
{Let us know if you decide to sell it. It's fair to characterize our noggins in the 'big on brains' category.}
I love it. And I do have a freakishly large head.
Beautiful work!
I bet that hat would fit me too!
Gorgeous! It is so on my list of things to do knit a reversible something :)
What a beautiful set. Your gift to her is a priceless one. May she know it well and she looks as if she does. Good work!
Totally cute.
Is there anything that you CANNOT DO??!! Simply talented!
