Ghost Cake with Flaming Eyes

Winter BazaarWelcome to the first week of the Winter Bazaar! (Thanks again to Lucy and M.G. Wallace Designs for the banner). If you have your Halloween idea to share please enter it into the fields below (a BIG thanks to Mr. Linky's help center, I couldn't get the darn thing to work at first and they fixed an error in my template for me so now it's good). Each person who participates through October 24th will be entered to win a Halloween prize, one of two costumes: a green dinosaur (or lizard) or a stinkbug approximately a U.S. size 6.

Here is my Halloween contribution: a ghost cake that will be the hit of any meal or party.

Ghost Cake with Flaming EyesThis is one of the cutest cakes, and so easy to make. Using a cake baked in a greased 9 x 13 rectangular pan carefully cut the ghost's rounded head by starting half way up the side of the cake where his arm would join, cut around the circular head and then cut down the other side to half way where his other arm should meet. Take that piece you've just cut off and cut it in half (where the top of the ghost's head would meet it) and stand each half on it's side on either side of the cake to make the arms so they are raised up. Secure with toothpicks if necessary.

Ice the cake with whipped cream or white icing, make a mouth with some chocolate chips inverted into the frosting, then make some seriously fun flaming eyes (this is the best part). Using two halves of an egg shell, place a sugar cube in each half, pour 1/2 teaspoon of lemon extract over the cube then light with a match. The alcohol in the extract will burn for a minute or two, but does make the eggshells hot so please be careful.

Check back next week for more Halloween ideas.

I've joined it but it's not really creative since I only heard about your Bazaar yesterday afternoon. It's just a list of scary books to read to get you in the Halloween mood.

When I need holiday ideas, I go to Family Fun Magazine online. (I can't think of the link offhand, I usually have to search for it.)

Oh, Michelle, my nieces (6 and 7) would adore this cake. I'm telling my mom about it tonight, so they can bake it together when she babysits them. (I'd make it with them, but it would be kinda hard since I'm in CA and they're in RI). ;)Maybe I'll have to make my own for Jeff and me! I love Halloween.

This is very cool. We're actually hosting a Halloween Recipe Carnival at Mamanista! for bloggers.

So I already have a recipe for spicy witch fingers up on my blog.

I'd like to share some other ideas , so I created a new post for your awesome Winter Carnival of some of my favorite Halloween Party Ideas (that I could remember right now ;) ), including monster toes, eerie entranceway, and some great links I've found.

In the Spirit of helping...
I duplicated something I’d seen in the Flash Gordon movie, a test of bravery where the kids could put their arms down inside the unknown cavity of the Bravery Beast, a chance to either be rewarded or die a horrible death if they got stung, bit or what ever happens if the beast inside gets angry or perceives cowardice.

I used a five gallon bucket to create the belly of the beast, a plastic bucket that originally had been used at the local donut shop to hold a berry mixture. I then added a couple of short lengths of dryer vent tubing and some papier-mâché to cover the contraption to make it look organic. I cut a couple of holes in the bucket and attached the dryer vent hoses on the inside of the bucket, the bottom of the bucket becoming the top. I then covered it to make it look like a tree stump or rock looking thing, painted it brown and black and placed it on top of two tables that had a large cloth draped over so I could hide below, having access to where the open part of the bucket rested between the tables supporting it.
