Standing up for Mom Bloggers Everywhere . . .

Here's a tiny P.S. for today . . . Thanks so much to Darrren Rowse at Problogger for publishing my post "Five Reasons Why Mom Blogs Are the Blogs to Watch" and if you read it and like it then maybe you'd give it a little Digg--or two. I've never been Dug before. Or Digged. I wonder what it feels like?

Great post! (the other one that is. I mean, this one was nice but a bit short...) ;)

thanks for writing it Michelle - great post!

Way to go, Michelle! :-) I checked it out and posted a comment. Don't really know how "Digg" works, though.. (scratching head).

Oh boy. I don't know what digging is. Good article!

Oh no, am I throwing around the jargon too much?

Digg is a social media site where you can vote for blog posts that you like.

You register for a free account then where you see a post such as Probloggers where it says "Digg This Post" in the footnotes you can click on that and it gives a vote for that post. The most popular posts make it to the top and get more and more traffic.

There's a bit more to it than that but that's all you'd need to know for the basic intro.

Gotcha now. Now I have to figure out how to use it on my blog. :-) Thanks again!

Hi Michelle. That was a great article on Problogger and I'm SO glad it was published there as it's caused me to find your blog!!!! :)

I read it and just came over here to say congrats!

Michelle, that was a terrific article -- more power to you for writing it, and to Darren for giving it the high-profile space at ProBlogger! You made solid points that a marketing maven could take to a meeting: and that's the way that "mommy bloggers" will (eventually) earn respect for the value they bring to the web. Well done!

Hubby sent me a link to the article, so it's definitely getting read! Great job!

I totally dug it in every possible sense of the word.

Great read - you reminded me that what we do is really important.

Here's a link to another great post on mommy blogging at Suburban Turmoil: http://suburbanturmoil.blogspot.com/2008/04/state-of-mommyblog.html#links

Thanks for the link Lindsey beth, I hadn't read that. Although after clicking through to read it I have to say I really don't agree with her post--on several key points--but it was interesting and thought provoking to read.

Hey, Michelle. I linked to your post and your piece at Problogger. I agree with you completely.

You were one of my favorite moms before I read this post. Click my name to see why.

That was a great article. But I don't make any money blogging, so how do you get extra income by blogging? I have BlogHer ads on my blog, but I don't make any money off of it. Maybe in 6 months I'll be able to buy a latte off my blog proceeds, but that's not income....

Scribbit said...

Well it is tough to make money--sites like Adsense are nearly impossible to make money from and Blogher places a lot of restrictions on a blog that uses their ads. I'm working on a post about ads for May or the first part of June.

That will be an article I'll look forward to. I don't blog for money; I blog because I enjoy it. But, why not earn a few bucks while you're at it if you can? I read the other article that Lindsey beth linked to and didn't really relate to it because I don't ever see my blog being so "in" that I get invited to some event. And even if I did get invited I probably wouldn't go because the social anxiety would be too much for me! lol! I like connecting with other bloggers. That's the main thing. Plus, I think i'm becoming a better writer. Well, sometimes I think i am...

Scribbit said...

Oh I think you're getting better--just because I'm a firm believer that the exercise of writing every day strengthens that writing muscle and inevitably improves your skills. Best part of blogging.

I didn't care for the article either, mostly because I felt the tone was pretty harsh and the assertions were emotional without having much logic or fairness to back them up. But what do I know? Surburban Turmoil is a popular blog and you can't dismiss what Lindsey says there too lightly.

You go, mom. I'm gonna go read it myself. but I already know it will be spot on and well-written, too. PS Have you done a how-to on social bookmarking yet? I'm trying to decide between Deli-ishus or Digdagdug. Any others?

Yes, the best things in life I have learned from my mother, even if I didn't think so at the time she was teaching me.

Hi there i am very new at this and you have probably in the past answered this question. Your post has a wide right side and then just a regular side bar?? How do you do this? I want this but the reverse??

Scribbit said...

Well it depends on what platform you're using, if you're in Blogger then just select one of the many templates they have where that layout is used. If you have a more specific question about how to do it please email me directly and I can see what there is to do.
