I've had quite a few electronics items lately--probably because of the approaching Father's Day--but this one is definitely fun. The Calisto Pro Series Home Phone System is made to allow you the freedom of switching between your land line and VoIP calls (Voice Over Internet Provider--such as through Skype or Vonage that go through your internet lines).
There's a little handset that charges directly in the cradle and the Bluetooth headset that allows you to take calls with your hands free up to 300 feet from the main phone set. That means that when I'm doing my regular Friday cleaning and call my sister to chat through the boredom of mopping now I can do it with my hands free and without a crick in my neck. Brilliant.
And while there are several phone systems that allow you hands-free conversation, with the Calisto Pro series you can also run the phone line through the USB port in your computer, unload the software disc then answer calls over Skype with the push of a button. That's cool. I talk to my parents in India regularly via Skype and having my hands free and not being stuck to the computer terminal is a terrific thing.
As an added feature (which I haven't tried) it says you can take the headset with you to use as a Bluetooth for your regular mobile phone as well. Completely interchangeable once you've configured it to your mobile device.
The basic set up is easy enough, you'd think there would a huge manual that comes with this thing but the instruction manual is pretty small and it's not hard to put it all together. There are diagrams to show how to hook it up through your computer and the sound quality is good, it's just a quick little button push and you can switch between lines, put someone on hold or switch back to an original call. Not bad.
So I'm offering this phone system to a lucky winner here this weekend and if you'd like your chance at it simply follow the directions below.
Here's how to win:
Before 12 am Monday go to the giveaway entry form on this page and enter your name and email. I will pick one of the names at random, contact the winner via their email and publish the winner's first name and home town in next Tuesday's post. See the bottom of the entry form for more details.
I'm sorry but this giveaway is only open to those with a U.S. address.

Andrew and I went for an early show of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull yesterday and--if you haven't already suspected as much--it's not as good as the original Raiders of the Lost Ark or Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade BUT it's probably better than the Temple of Doom. Probably. Yes it's cheesy but they're all cheesy and I kind of like that. Yes Harrison Ford looks old but he's still looking good and has a nice presence. Yes it's predictable but it's not bad.
It's a little long and I'm a little tired of the treasure hunt movies--Raiders was the original and the best but after National Treasure and the rest I'm thinking that it's all been done to death and it's time to retire the genre. Sorry Mr. Lucas.
A few too many crunching, sliding doors of stone and floors disappearing beneath people's feet and cobweb-infested caverns. I've seen it all before and it really didn't add much new to the scene but I kind of liked Shia LaBoeuf in the cast and the motorcycle chase scene is good.
I'd give it a C--it could have been better but it could have been worse.
BUT . . . if you're looking for a good video rental I'd definitely recommend The Martian Child. My sister made a DVD copy for me months ago and I finally got around to watching this sweet drama with John and Joan Cusack about a widower who adopts a quirky kid who thinks he's from Mars. It's warm and sweet and funny and squeaky clean (though just a tad long)--the little boy is pretty cute. An A from me and the gang.

Hi come over here from poetikat. Nice blog and cool phone but I am in NZ Good luck to the winner. Thanks for the video tip Get it out next time
very nice ,
I just had a friend tell me last night to rent Martian Child. Two recommendations in 24 hours means I'll add it to my Netflix.
My daughter wanted to see Martian Child, so that will now go on our Netflix Q.
Change of subject. I made your cranberry/mustard chicken last might, and oh my stars. that was unbelieveable. Now, I had to improvise and make my own cranberry mustard, but it came out delicious all the same.
It was a winner at the dinner table and will be made again in the future.
What a very nice prize I would love to win it for my husband who does so much for me and our children
I haven't seen the new Indiana Jones movie, yet. I'm actually a little reluctant to do so. I know that it can't possibly live up to my childhood memories of the old ones!
My sister said nearly the same thing about the Indy movie. We all know it won't be as good, but we want to see it anyway!
I am really looking forward to seeing the new Indiana Jones movie. That is a great phone.

I've never heard of this phone, but sure seems interesting!
Thanks for the movie reviews..I'll pass on Indiana Jones (though I do love Harrison!) . Martian Child seems like something we may like, think I'll subscrive to Netflix again for the summer. Especially if it's going to stay in the 90's already!
Happy Saturday!
I've been wanting to see Martian Child- so glad you recommended it!
Steph
We loved Martian Child as well - The movie doesn't even have to be the best, but if it is clean and you can watch with the kids - I will always give it an A.
i love dvd recommendations :) thanks :)
I heard that about Indiana Jones -sigh- oh, well. :) Thanks for the giveaway- it looks sweet!
I can wait till it comes out on DVD, but my husband insists this is a movie for the big screen.
We could hit the movies together; I could have said the same things about both movies.
(We watched the Martian Child last night. My kids liked it and I got a bit teary too. It was nice to pull a PG movie off the shelf with a great cast. Doesn't happen very often.)
I myself own a Calisto Pro Series phone. It is no doubt the best phone I've ever had! Great give-away!

Great giveaway-thank you for the movie recommendations-great site!
Sounds like a cute movie and I'm going to check it out. Enter me in your contest please. Thanks!
I also loved Matian Child. And I loved it even more after finding out the true story behind it. We have always called Pablo our little alien because he sees the world in a different way.
Hubby & I had a date last night and went to see Indy. I concur with your review. It was ok. Typical over-the-top Indy action. Not as good as others, but still fun. I enjoyed the "reunion" aspect.
I think we will be taking the boys to Kung Fu Panda today.
Thanks for letting us know about The Martian Child, for some reason I never saw it. I will def. rent it now.

Pick me, pick me, pick me! I can't tell you how many phones we've been through lately.
Jamie and I saw Martian Child in the theatre (something we rarely ever do) and loved it. Nice, sweet and light. Plus, Cusak is probably my favorite actor!
I saw the preview of The Martian Child and thought it looked sweet. Thanks for recommending it.
I haven't seen either of those movies, so I appreciate the reviews! :)
I've wondered if The Martian Child is good. Thanks for the review. We'll have to rent it!
My mother stepped in to some big shoes when my dad died when I was very young of cancer. She went back to work and became the mom and dad of her household and managed to make it look much easier than we both know it was. Each year I get her a father's day gift as a way of saying thanks. I would love to make this her gift this year.
Great contest
thanks this is great
Movie reviews are always welcome! Thanks for holding this nice contest. I would love to be entered. :)
I have heard from a few people that the new Indiana movie is not that good. That really stinks my husband was excited to hear there was a new one coming. I guess we will wait for the video. Thanks for saving us some money.
Thanks for the chance!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'd love to win this to give to my daughter. Her 16 month old is a little "phone thief". My daughter's cell phone was lost for 2 months, and just found under the sofa! She steals it from Mommy's purse! The Bluetooth would be great for her as she does her work around the house too!
Thanks for the contest! Would love to win this--very cool!
Thanks for a chance at this awesome phone.
I will rent the movie and the phone system sounds cool! Thanks!
A really great contest
My phone is on the fritz! I really need this!
This phone is awesome!...sometimes I feel overwheled with all the new technology that so frequently emerges!
