September's Write-Away Contest

The Creative Family by Amanda SouleThis month I'm introducing something a little new for the contest, don't worry it's nothing that will make CNN but it's new nonetheless. Keep reading . . .

The topic for this month is "Colors" which could be a specific color or about colors in general, however you'd like to write this one up. I favor yellow myself--my bedroom walls are Gypsy Gold and it's my very favorite color in the world. At any rate, decide how you want to tackle this and write you wondrous post following the directions below:

1. Write a post or find one in your archives on the topic, "Colors" and email your post's permalink to me at scribbit at gmail.com. The permalink is the URL of the individual post--not the URL of your blog--usually found by clicking on the post title or time stamp and copying the URL that appears in the address field. I will accept entries through Wednesday September 17th. If you fail to meet the September 17th deadline I will still happily publish your link with the list of entries but it will not be judged. I reserve the right to reject submissions if they fail to meet the topic or if they contain objectionable content.

2. Publish a link to the contest page here at Scribbit in either your entry post or in a separate post. I'm not picky how you do this, just give the contest a little mention as a courtesy and nod back. Don't stress over it because I won't.

3. Check back here on Friday September 19th when I will post a complete list of the entries along with the Write-Away Winner and any Honorable Mentions our judge sees fit to award. This month when I list the entries I will also post a small teaser for each. Just the first sentence or two of your post to give people an idea of what they might expect if they should be so bold as to click on the link to your entry. This would suggest that your opening sentence might be particularly important this time. Just to warn you.

Our guest judge this month is Marybeth Whalen from the Cheaper by the Half Dozen who is a mother to six beautiful children and a talented writer. She's placed well in previous Write-Away Contests and I have every confidence in her ability to judge wisely and well. Thanks Marybeth!

As for the prize . . . here's what you have to shoot for: A copy of The Creative Family by Amanda Soule, the new book with ways to help your children explore their creativity. It's getting rave reviews all over the place and perhaps you too could enjoy the ideas Ms. Soule has to offer.

But besides this the winner and all runners-up or Honorable Mentions (I leave that up to the judge to award them) will also get to take home this attractive Write-Away Winner button which he or she may display in their side bar if they wish. Now I recognize that this sad little button really stinks--it's just not very pretty or eye-catching or well-designed (that would be my fault, I designed it, sad to admit). And I'm in desperate need of another newer, snappier button. If anyone out there wants to tackle such a project I'd love to be able to brag about my new designer friend who made such a wonderful new button . . .

Subtle I know but what can I say? I'm a Photoshop dunce. This is the point where I'd say, "Help me Obi Wan Kenobi, you're my only hope."

Write-Away Contest WinnerAnyway, good luck, I look forward to reading your entries.

Should it be only a post, or could I send an individual article about a colour?

Thank you for the idea, I like it much! I like competitions like this.

Oh my goodness. Are you saying that you already have photoshop and THAT is the button you have created?

This confirms that I shouldn't spend an inordinate amount of money on buying photoshop for myself.

Interesting how you state that your favourite colour is yellow and yet your button is.....well...sort of sludge?

Cheers

I *adore* Amanda Soule and her book. She has a way of making everything in life beautiful.

I could make you a new button but I need a little time to fit it in my schedule, before the 17th say?

I didn't enjoy the book at all - was glad I borrowed it from the library before buying a copy. Haven't read Soule's blog at all so I didn't know what to expect - the book came across as very non-theistic which I found to be a real turnoff.

That said, being an artist, the theme "colour" is intriguing...

I like your blog posts - they make me smile. This color idea sounds like something for me - I'll add it to my "to do" list :-)

I'm jumping in! I'm having to hold myself back from writing it RIGHT HERE :)
I'm behind the times and don't know the author. I do get Mary Beth's devotionals in my email and love them.

I was thinking about entering this month....but then I just read The Book Thief and the first chapter is about colors, and is so brilliant (as is the entire book) that I it left me with writers block on the subject.

So, perhaps I'll enter again next month. And along with all the brilliant entries I'm sure there will be this month you should also read The Book Thief. It's my book recommendation of the year.
