This is short and sweet today because I'm painting walls. Lots and lots of walls. Two coats of primer and then the paint . . . I'm so speckled I look like I got in a fight with a tube of toothpaste. And lost.
Speaking of teeth, with all of us seated around the dinner table a few nights ago we were talking about food (a natural subject for the occasion) and I mentioned that I like to eat pretty much anything.
Lillian heard this and said, "But you don't like to drink alcohol, Mom. Do you? You don't like alcohol."
I smiled at this because not only was I surprised that she understands that we don't drink but the word "alcohol" coming from a six year old was kind of funny.
"No Lily I don't drink alcohol."
The conversation went on as we discussed the subject of onions when again Lillian interrupted.
"You don't drink coffee either Mom. You don't like to drink coffee."
"Too right Lily. I don't drink coffee either."
Again the conversation resumed when for a third time her little voice chimed in:
"And you don't drink Listerine Mom--I know you don't drink Listerine."
The onions were pretty much abandoned at that point because really? How can you argue with that? I guess she's got me--I guess I don't just like everything because I don't drink alcohol, coffee or Listerine. So there. Though now that I think about it "Listerine" might make a very fine celebrity baby name . . .

We don't drink either. Our two youngest are five and seven and they call it alcohol because one time we heard them call it booze and it just sounded so wrong.
They used to say, "When we were by _____'s house they had booze, right?"
But now they say, When we were by _____'s house they were serving alcohol, right?"
When you get the words all pretty and formal like that, I really wouldn't mind taking a hit or two myself!
hehe that is too cute!
Well, I for one am totally with you about not drinking alcohol and listerine, but not coffee. I heart coffee. Sadly, my kidneys do not, so I cannot have it often. :o)
We call it "adult beverages" here. And occasionally imbibe. Like once a month. But I don't drink Listerine. Coffee? Whooooole different ball game.
Hey! I'm not a coffee drinker either! I thought I was the only one.
Hope the painting is going well, my hubby decided the new baby would appreciate a new coat on the walls, too....so we are painting a week before the baby comes...
I can pass on the Listerine and coffee, but a margarita in the summer is too good to miss!
Isn't it funny what kids come up with?
My Mother and I owned a Coffeehouse - I never had a cup of coffee...don't like the stuff. I used to have a drink of alcohol every once in awhile, but about 15 years ago I decided that I just didn't like it, so no alcohol. I gave up caffeine in 1992. Never have tried listerine!
Your kids are a hoot :) Enjoy painting and try to get a soak in the tub this evening or at least a nice hot shower.
Wow, little eyes are watching you! Glad to know that Listerine is on the "do not drink" list :)
Where was she to help defend me with yesterday's post when I vented my daughter's preschool setup a STARBUCKS center?
I've tried the Listerine and can honestly say, "It's NOT worth it!!!"
Ok, so I accidentally swallowed it. Never make a person laugh when they are gargling!
Too cute! Don't you just love how children are so very literal. They take what we say at face value. Makes you think twice about what you say, that's for sure! Happy Painting!
Isn't it funny what they notice? I'm not a coffee drinker either but my sons will be the first to tell you that I'm a soda addict. My one vice, but I can't give it up. Although they make a huge deal out of it, because I won't let them drink it,lol.
Out of the mouths of babes! Let them put it all straight!
What a funny girl! Where did she get that about Listerine? Does she know it has alcohol in it?
I don't drink soda.
Or mustard.
You gotta love that girl! And yay, you're painting - I think that's considered "over the hump." Can't wait to see the pictures.
Did you know that Listerine has a high percentage of alcohol? And that people who abuse alcohol have been known to DRINK Listerine? EWWWWWWWW!
We don't drink in our house either, but I keep some cans of Bud tightly wrapped up in the back of the pantry for when I make chili...it just tastes better that way.
Too cute. :)
We do drink alcohol, and in the spirit of not mystifying it, Maya is allowed to have a taste of wine if she wants it. She always says the same thing. Sip. Consider. "Nope, still tastes like alcohol. Don't like it." That's ok honey (actually, I'm glad, since she's only 12), and if you never like it? That's fine, too. :)
That's so cute! Kids are super smart and pick up on the weirdest stuff.
Cute dialogue. I think it's amazing the connections kids do make. Now that you planted the oh so subtle hint of a baby name for Listerine, you wait, in a few years it'll be the next trend. ;)
My Pa-in-law (God rest him) had to remove Listerine and aftershave from the shelves of his store in Northern AZ. He had a woodstove and comfy chairs where customers could rest and warm up with free Folgers! No legal alcohol within 50 miles, so I suppose some were desperate, but to drink skin bracer... OMG!
Don't guzzle the Listerine. Try the GermX instead. Lillian is precious! She cracks me up.
When we open the occasional bottle of wine, we have an 11 year old following us, counting every glass. He usually makes it all the way to two. Of course, since the school counselor informed all the kids that caffeine is a DRUG, he follows me around when I drink Diet Coke, too.
It makes sense that she thought of Listerine when the real topic was onions...c'mon, I know you had to put two and two together there.
She's so cute!
And for the record, I don't drink any of those things either. :)
Now I know what you were REALLY doing in the bathroom at BlogHer. Swilling Listerine.
I kid.
I am so excited to see the finished photos of the remodel. I am still fracking envious of your kitchen drawers. Sigh...
It's so funny what kids will catch you on. They're so literal.
I'm no longer a drinker due to my medication, but the Mountain man enjoys an occasional beer. Like once a month. But he lives on coffee. I drink tea and Cokes.
Listerine -- too funny! As a celebrity baby name it would probably be spelled Lystyreen, though.
*giggle*
Coffee, alcohol, and listerine, the modern word of wisdom?
Wow, now that's a combination! I can honestly say that I don't drink any of those things either. :)
We painted our kitchen recently. I thought I was speckled really good, then the sprayer got clogged. We disassembled the thing, cleared most of the gunk, hooked it up to a water hose, and tried it. It didn't work, so we shook it around and then I tried it again. At first, nothin', then the thing exploded. I looked like four or five tubes of toothpaste had ganged up on me.
I don't drink alcohol, coffee or listerine either.
