If your time is limited for baking sweets this holiday season and if you only try one recipe this should be it.
Mixing cream cheese and chocolate this fast and easy cake goes together in a few minutes and is so rich and moist and dense you'll need to go to confession after you finish the piece.
These also do well as cupcakes in case you were wondering . . . just in case.
for cream cheese filling:
8 ounces cream cheese
1 egg
1/3 cup sugar
dash salt
1 cup chocolate chips
for cake:
1 ½ cups flour
1 cup sugar
¼ cup cocoa
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup water
1/3 cup oil
1 teaspoon vinegar
1 teaspoon vanilla
Mix the cream cheese filling by combining all the ingredients and setting them aside. Then mix the cake part by combining all those ingredients and setting it aside.
Fill a greased 9-inch by 9-inch square pan with the chocolate cake batter. Top with cream cheese mix and bake at 350 for 40 minutes or until done in the center.

It's in the oven now...cake batter was kind of runny and the cream cheese topping sank down into it. did I do something wrong?

I'm putting it on a recipe card as we speak!
I just made and put this into the oven for a potluck I am attending tonight.
It did go together quickly and the batters tasted yummy. I can hardly wait for the baked version!
Thanks so much for sharing this recipe with us. :-)
Came out great! Thanks for the recipe. I'm giving them out to the neighbors for the holidays. I'm sure they'll love them.
Did you use mini-chips for the cream cheese layer?
Oh, and ummm, THANK YOU for offering me a frabjulous cake recipe that does not involve a complicated frosting process.
I may just go easy on myself and bring this to the neighbors' Christmas night dessert-and-wine-and-coffee-musical-jam-session!
I have made the cupcake version many times - but for some reason (perhaps I am a cook of very small brain) I have never even thought of doing it as a CAKE version.
wow.
(feel the awe)
