I've been teaching the girls I work with at church how to piece a quilt. It's been slow going and we've been at it for a year now but they've done a beautiful job--here's Grace's top.
I just love the vintage fabric and there were enough leftovers to make something else. I'm trying to think of what would be just right for it . . . any ideas? I'm always up for ideas.
If Lillian were just a few years younger the fabric would make a cute pinafore (I doubt she'd go for that now). And I wondered if it might instead make a sweet apron.
But I just can't bear to throw away the extras and I keep thinking there's got to be a really smashing idea that they'd be perfect for.

What about a couple of small cushions with the pattern in the centre and log cabin strips around?
Have a similar problem. I thought about doing pillows such as Linda suggests but think log cabin placemats for a table will be better use. However, I may have enough leftover to make a few blocks or maybe storybook for grandbabies. Here's is one more idea - cut out the image and glue to solid color gift bag. Frame the image with ruffle, ribbon, whatever. Place tissue cushioned gift into bag and tie bow to handles.
What about making a purse? The soft quilted tote bags sell for a fortune in some stores!
Just wanted you to know that I've been enjoying your posts, but I don't always have time to comment, as I've been using other peoples computers. I don't want to be a hog, so I jump on and scan my favorites!
Very cute. And good for you for keeping up on such a long-range project! I know it isn't easy.
I know it's reflective of where I'm at, but I often wish I had saved things like that to make things for my grandkids--that would be my suggestion. I'm only 42 and I still have little kids myself, but I already have 2. lol.
I vote for the purse. That look is all the rage now, too.
I love aprons. funny because I don't cook much. but I think it would be an adorable apron! but the purse idea above is also a great one...
I was going to say pillows, but the purse idea is really good, too! Matching mommy and me aprons would be cute, too, though.
GASP! Don't you dare throw away scraps! Here are a few ideas:

I love Holly Hobbie-looking dolls like that! Too cute.
Throw pillows would be my favorite. Any relatives fixin' to have a baby? These would fit nicely into a baby blankie.
I've seen some very cute skirts made from quilting fabric. Cut squares of each color & piece squares into long rows. Make a the top row 1.5 times the size of Lilian's waist. Each subsequent row is 1.5 times the size of the one above, and gathered on. By the time you get to the bottom, you have a lovely full, twirly skirt, but less little girlish than a pinafore.
Baby quilts? Apron sounds good. Doll clothes perhaps. I guess she's outgrown her dolls too, though. I love that fabric.
I like the purse idea, but a pillow sham for the bed pillows would also go nice with the quilt. I was going to suggest curtains or valences, but I don't think your new windows would accomodate that. Maybe that would an idea for the other girls, though. For smaller scraps, maybe a book cover? Fabric flowers? Oh oh - a small back-pack-like thingy with drawstrings for overnights or the beach! Have fun!
Is there anything you don't know how to do? Gosh I love your blog. You are amazing.
When I finished my last quilt, I made pillowcases with the remains. Mine was a sampler quilt with a variety of fabrics. I didn't have enough for two matching cases so the fronts are the same and the backs are the same. I used a narrow band for piping and the borders match on both cases. (hope that makes some sense)Just using one of the fabrics to edge a plain case can give a nice coordinated touch.
