Indoor Games to Keep the Kids Busy

Indoor Games for KidsWe've had nice winter weather lately--not that cold and good for making snow forts in the back yard--but that doesn't mean I don't like a good indoor game when I need one.

So here it is: push the furniture back, draw a line with masking tape down the middle of your room and put some trash cans on either side and a stack of paper (recyclable I'm sure) then see which team can get the most balls of paper into the other team's basket. If you can take a break from your work I'm sure a kids v. mom game would be a fun version.

Gina from Sparks, Nevada claimed the weekend's giveaway prize from Grow in Style and I'll announce the Sesame Street Live winner in tomorrow's post.

Have you got your entry in for this month's Write-Away Contest? The bikes are beautiful and the topic is fun but the deadline is fast approaching.

Ooh, great timing - I've got an insanely large number of boys coming over Friday for a sleepover party (11(!) plus my two kids - I have NO idea how this happened, I'd offered 5-6 and it just ballooned from there! Aack!) and we could definitely use a few extra indoor games. Any other suggestions?

We played this before at a cheerleading sleepover. Except we just set a timer and the team who got more of their paper "snowballs" onto the oter team's side won. The girls went nuts flinging and kicking paper snowballs at each other...it was hilarious!

You can also buy a bag of large marshmallows, give 1/2 to each team and just launch them to the other team's side. You keep picking them up and throwing until time's up. Count the marshmallows. The team with the fewest wins.

I'm doing this TODAY. We haven't gotten any fresh snow since mid-January, and the last few days, we've had a thaw (and RAIN) so it's really gray and muddy and gross outside right now. (Yet we all know winter isn't even close to giving us back our parks yet.)

Thank you Michelle! This sounds funny, but it's encouraging to me to come to your blog and see other moms dealing with winter. So many other blogs right now are talking about the leaves budding and warm temperatures and the beginning of spring. I can only wish....

Like the marshmallow twist. Of course, my kids would just be shoveling them in their mouths.

Looks fun! We're mostly stringing beads on pipe cleaners lately. Maybe I should work on Evie's throwing skills!

We made some "snowballs" from nylons and polyfil for games like this. We've had the best time laughing during snowball fights.

That looks like such a fun activity!! We are supposed to have rain this whole weekend, so I think this will be perfect to keep Little Dude busy!

I know this is fun! Played this when I was younger with my 5 other siblings. Now if only I have other kiddos in the house to make this game fun enough. (Daughter is an only child - for now)..maybe I could invite her friends over!

All that trash. Could I really do it? Could I allow them to add to the mess that is already burying me?

It does sound like fun though. A lot!
