Killer Bunnies RULE!

Killer Bunnies GameWe love games here, LOVE them. Our favorites (which I've mentioned before) are Settlers of Catan, Spy Alley, Hearts, President and Scum, Five Card Mao, and now . . . Killer Bunnies.

Technically the full name is "Killer Bunnies and the Quest for the Magic Carrot" and we're playing it all the time lately. We don't have a game of our own, I've been mooching off my sister who has one (though Amazon has it on sale for $20.50 which is a STEAL I tell you) and borrowing it to play with our friends who seem to like it as much as we do.

Anyway, it's a strange game. A card game but not at all your typical card game. Each card in the deck is unique, reminding me of 60s psychedelic album art and it's a nice blend of luck, strategy and humor (we love the humor).

The way you win is to collect carrots. You want to be lucky and get the one carrot that is randomly and secretly designated as the winning carrot so the more carrots you get, the better your odds of being having one of your carrots be the winning carrot. You accumulate carrots by maintaining bunnies, not always easy to do because while you're trying to keep your own bunnies alive everyone else is trying to kill them off with weapon cards that range in potency from Whisks to Flame Throwers to Black Holes.

Each card is a different weapon or protection and you try to play protection cards (like Heavenly Halos) on your bunnies while keeping other people from releasing Ebola weapons and wiping our your litter. Very fun.

And, as with many great games, you can get expansion sets to make things even more intriguing. I haven't played with an expansion set . . . maybe I can talk my sister into getting one so I can borrow it from her. That's what family is for, right?

Have you entered this month's Write-Away Contest? It goes perfectly with a side of stuffing--the topic is "Grateful" and time is ticking away . . .

And congratulations to Brittany of Paramus, New Jersey for winning last weekend's cookie cutter and mittens giveaway. She's quite ready for winter now. For those who did not win this time, you can still get 10% off at Ann Clark Ltd on your cookie cutter order by entering the code BLGA7 at checkout.

Thanks! These look right up the boy's alley. Wonderful gift idea, even with all the killing and all!

What age range do you think the game would be good for?

Killer bunnies sounds a little bit like Munchkin, which my kids LOVE - all the weird, random types of ways to attack people. Munchkin doesn't have anything like the magic carrot though.

I'll have to check out some of those other games - we already have Settlers of Catan and enjoy it. My BIL gets the kids a new game every year for Christmas - great way to spend a lazy post Christmas afternoon and/or evening.

Kathy--I can't remember what the box lists it at but all of our family (age 7 through adult) have played, though it is tough for the youngest to do any sort of strategy.

Owlfan--I've seen Munchkin and read good reviews. I've wanted to get it too, we're just kind of holding it on the wish list for now.

We do enjoy Killer Bunnies. I will say that it takes some doing to sort out all the rules. Not for those with attention issues!

I totally forgot about this game! We used to play it in college (when everyone else was out drinking, we were playing board games). Now I have an itch to play it....

We love Killer Bunnies! The red extension pack is the first one to add to the collection. I also agree with NGS though - it took awhile to sort out all of the rules.

Also, no one has mentioned Kinder Bunnies yet which is for the younger crowd and not so, um, aggressive. :)

So funny! We LOVE LOVE LOVE Killer Bunnies at our house. We got it for each other for Christmas last year and bought ALL the extensions within a four month period. We LOVE it. We are actually bringing it up with us in a few weeks. Maybe you and Andrew would be up for a little date night game night???

Funny, I clicked through to mention the similarity to Munchkin, also! :) I love the description of this game, but since we have Munchkin (the original plus two expansion packs!) I wonder if it's really worthwhile getting this one... Hmmm, maybe someone I know has it so we can mooch off them!

Ever tried Bohnanza? That's a fun one, too!

Oh, My Goodness. I think I need Killer Bunnies for my daughter; we call her the Rabbit Whisperer. She'd enjoy the randomness of it. (Excuse me while I make sure my real bunny wipes the carrot juice off her chin)

Sounds fun, but also a bit like a Dungeons and Dragons gateway game...

I love this game. When we lived in Logan we had friends that would come over for games almost every single night and always one of us would pick K.B. to play. We have all the expansions, and in my opinion, they are worth it!
