Getting Ready for Fishing Season with My Fish Hat

I know it's no longer wool-hat weather but who among you will argue with the cuteness of this hat?

Knit Fish Hat
I saw the pattern here at Knitty and had to make one but you want to hear the sad part? My daughter, my sweet little baby, is officially too "big" for a fish hat and just modeling it here for my picture sent her into rolls of the eyes.

"Mom!" she said as I forced her to put it on for the picture. Yes, forced. So report me, I dare you.

Even the pink wasn't enough to tempt her to wear it but I think it's just adorable.

Knit Fish Hat
I made another one in blue--just for good measure--and they're both up for sale in my Etsy shop if you happen to have a child that would wear it. Apparently I need grandchildren.

Oh my word! That is ADORABLE.

Bought the blue one! I have one child who doesn't know the meaning of the word embarrassed and one who adores cool hats, so it will be loved..

Okay, this?! IS PRECIOUS. I am not even a huge fan of fish (in general, you know?), but this is utterly darling.

How did I miss that you had an ETSY shop?

I love the eyes on your version...how did you do them?

Good question--which I should have addressed in the post actually.

I did a cheaty trick of embroidering over the top of my stitches. It's possible to knit the white and black eyes into the pattern but that's so much work so for a small area like that I just use yarn to follow over the top of the knitting stitches to make the pattern.

Michelle,

They're adorable! I personally don't think I would be able to part with it after I made one. I'd probably wait the 25 years for grandchildren ;)

Oh wow! I just saw your hat on Etsy, which led me to your blog! I LOVE the hat and you have inspired me to make a crocheted version for my boys! Your blog looks awesome and I am hoping to set aside some time this weekend to read through it! I am new to the blogging world and am excited to read your tips for bloggers, etc...and read about your Alaskan family life as well!

Again, awesome hat! :)

In a few years she'll think it's a cool hat when she sees it on another girl at school. Until then, good luck. The hat is adorable by the way.

ACK! That hat is totally adorable. I'm sorry she's too old to wear it. Make a smaller one and wait for the grand kids. :)

That is flippin' CUTE!! I wouldn't have actually "seen" the fish exactly unless you had it layed down in that photo!! Here in fishin' country (MN home of 10,000+ lakes), that hat would be a HIT!!

The fish hat on this young girl looks a bit oversized. Someone needs to weave a new one for her head size.

Wow...that is adorable. I love it!

Adorable! Too bad I don't knit. My grandson would look awesome in the blue/white version. Think it would stay on a 9 month-old's head? LOL Even on an older child, wouldn't it have a tendency to slip/fall off? (just wondering)

As an FYI - I love the hat. And I have two "I don't ever want to be a model" attituded little girls. I use my boy as my model. He doesn't care... (Just don't tell my husband I'm dressing my boy in girl clothes!)

That's incredibly cute. In this area, kids would wear them ice fishing or sturgeon spearing.

I'm 21 and I would LOVE to wear that hat. No one is too old to wear a fun hat.

I LOVE the hats! Do you have a pattern or where did you find it? My sister would love to knit one. I would totally wear it.

So cute! My kids are at that have to force them age too. But if they weren't I'd love to get one. Great job!

That is an awesome hat. She will see that someday. I would wear it. Then I would get to see the eye-rolling from my 6-year-old-going-on-15.

I would love this hat just for me! It's wicked cute! I can't knit though. :( That's one thing that just escapes me. If you make any more in some adult sizes I'd totally get one! Great work!

OOOH it's sooooo cute~! No wonder it said they were sold out. My niece is 4yrs old and loves to go fishing with her dad. When she is ice fishing she baits her own and checks her own traps. This would be perfect for her to wear while ice fishing with daddy.
