Summer Kid Crafts: Make Some Tracks

Magnetic TracksThis was a huge success this week, I'm just warning you now.

It's so simple I can describe it in two sentences: Take cardboard tubes of different sizes and cut them in half lengthwise. Stick some adhesive-backed magnet strips on the tubes then stick them on the refrigerator and you've got an adjustable, very fun, very cool ping pong ball track.

The kids built different tracks all afternoon, sending the ping pong ball running down through the maze over and over again and trying to get more complex paths each time.

Wrapping paper tubes, toilet paper tubes, paper towel tubes, they're all useful and the kids found ways to send the ball falling down through tubes of all sizes onto the ramps and then into safe capture at the end by putting two ramps into a V shape.

Now if only we could find a good hoop to stick up there and set to flaming. . . .

Sponsored by Polkadot Peacock for children's bedding.

Wow, you just won my vote for coolest mom ever. This might even convince my kids to take down all the crap, err, I mean very important artwork and old tests, from my refrigerator, or heck, even my (steel) front door!

We are so doing this this summer.

Sweet alternative!

My friend has a wooden set of these on her fridge that she paid big $$ for. The kids FLOCK to this thing every time.

That looks like a lot of fun! Your fridge is cleared off more than mine will ever be. But I was noticing how small it is! That or your son is a giant!

Glad you like it--I have to admit that I totally play with it myself.

Now that I think about it, it's a nice diet-promoter. Every time I go to the refrigerator to eat something I end up getting side-tracked with the tubes.

The Cruise Director will love this. I can't wait for him to try it. On a day that I won't be getting into the fridge a lot, that is!
