I've shared these RSAnimation videos before and while they're long (10 minutes) they are worth the time.This one discusses education and asks many of the questions I asked in my series "Preparing Our Kids for Life" last month--only Sir Ken Robinson answers them much better than I could.
Robinson outlines ways the current educational system is failing, why children are being treated for ADHD, how humanity is born with the capacity for creativity, and what the current system does to eradicate it. All to the genius of RSAnimation studios fascinating animated presentation.
I present . . . "Changing Educational Paradigms." My husband forwarded this gem to me. He's the only person I know who forwards things to me in my email box that are consistently gems.

Wow. Just wow. I sent this on to a friend whose oldest is in Kindergarten and she's feeling pressured to put him on some sort of ADHD med. She's already been told the teacher is considering holding him back {isn't it just now November?}. Hopefully this will ease her stress a little. Thanks for sharing!

Really, really interesting (I'll be forwarding it on to MY spouse!) One thing that grabbed my attention because we just experienced it for the first time with my 10-year-old was the idea of cheating vs. collaboration. She and her friends were "helping" each other with math homework before school started; turns out the teacher didn't see it the same way, and they got in big trouble.
We all see the problem of trying to force "ADHD" kids to sit still and listen up, but how do we change the system? Every community needs at least one alternative school ("Divergent Thinking Elementary") where our "ADHD" kids can be taught with more appropriate styles of teaching.
So what do we do now? I wish there was an easy answer to that question. Thanks for sharing.
May I just say that his words totally echoed with me? I feel that I'm a smart enough person, but that the education system was so much jumping through hoops that I don't often get around to realizing my true creative potential . . . I just hope I can find some solutions for my only children some day.
