Here's a game that's been popular at our house and is great for indoor play. You may not have Alaska's cold and snowy winter but everyone has a rainy day now and that's when an idea like this comes in handy.
To play this indoor bowling game, attach a ball to a string then hang the string from the top of the doorway or from the ceiling. Set up a bunch of pop bottles or blocks as pins and you're ready to bowl till the cows come home.
Note: You can cut a slit in a tennis ball then knot a rope and shove the knot inside the slit if you're having trouble tying a ball to a string. Also, you can make it tougher for older kids by requiring that they swing the ball around to the back and hit the pins on the return before catching the ball.
Easy, cheap and thrilling--my kind of entertainment.

Knowing them, my boys would find a way to take that innocuous little contraption of fun and figure out a way to blow up the earth.
Sigh...
That sounds like fun. We have the opposite problem here in Southern California. In the summers we have days that reach 115 and sometimes even 120 degrees so children shouldn't go outside especially on high pollution days. Thanks for the idea.
Happy New Year 2008!
A realy cool idea!
This looks like a lot of fun for my 3 year-old. And even better, we have all the necessary items laying around our house!
this looks like lots of fun!!!! plus settting it all up would take up part of a snowy afternoon too!
My kids will love that game.
Yet another fantastic idea from your bottomless pit. ;D
I love this idea. Now I won't have to worry about the ball flying out of bounds and breaking something.
What a great idea, Michelle. I'll have to find a doorway that will work for this. Our high today is 7, and with the baby most likely coming next week, we'll be quite housebound for a while.
What a cute idea!
Very cool! When you say attach -- do you tape it? How do you get the string to stay up?
Fun idea! Did you draw the illustration? Very helpful.
You could tape with duct tape, hand from a nail or from a light fixture that was secure.
My kids would love that! Now if I can find that tennis ball I hid last summer after it hit me in the head for the third time...
Can't wait to try this one! Thanks for the idea!
This looks fun. Sadly my Preschool/Toddler duo who would mostly likely bean each other with the ball or strangle themselves on the string...but when they get older... I submitted a dinosaur museum idea that kept us busy for the better portion of a day. Thanks for keeping the Bazaar going! We all need good new ideas on dark winter days.
Happy Newe Year Everyone!! May all your dreams come true this year :-)
Happy New Years, Michelle!
What a fun game. My son Josh loves to bowl. He would definetly a blast with this.
