Greatest Movie Lines

Extra points if you know which movies they came from (and you'll be my kindred spirit forever). In fact, that's not a bad idea. Whoever can guess the most will get a shout out when I get back from vacation.*

* Family members, employees and personal buddies of scribbit are ineligible. Sorry Dan. Except maybe Dad, he wouldn't know them anyway, he thinks our movie quoting fetish is bizarre. It probably is.

13. "Do these balloons come in funny shapes?"
"Not unless round's funny."

12. "Is this hand-shucked?"

11. "The sea monkey has my money."

10. "Put it on the Underhills' bill."

9. "Son, you've got a panty on your head!"

8. "She has such nicely rounded diphthongs!"

7. "You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means."

6. "It's all ball bearing nowadays!"

5. "Them syreens did this to Pete. They loved him up and turned him into a horny toad."

4. "Wherever she's going she'll be there by 10:30 tomorrow!"

3. "Pete, the personal rancor reflected in that remark I don't intend to dignify with comment. But I would like to address your general attitude of hopeless negativism."

2. "You'll never find a more retched hive of scum and villainy."

1. "Come and see the violence inherent in the system! Help! Help! I'm being repressed!"

Oh wait...I did know #7. Somehow I missed that one.

Doh!

I'm not good at this. My hubby is. He probably would know just about every movies these are from but can't remember his kid's birthdays.

#7 is the Spaniard (Ignoyou Montoya?) to the Sicilian from the Princess Bride.

Now I KNOW I'm really behind on my movies. Sad! Although I cheated and read your comments and now I recognize #7. :)

Okay...

#13 and #9 Raising Arizona
#12 What About Bob?
#7 The Princess Bride
#1 Monty Python and The Holy Grail (one of the best movies to quote with friends...I'm especially fond of the French Castle scene...and the Black Knight...and The Knights Who Say Ni...oh, I like it all).

Some of them sound so familiar, but I have no clue.

I can hear some of these in my mind but just can't picture the movie they're from. Ahhh! The only one I'm sure of is #7, The Princess Bride. Need more coffee...

OH! OH! I love this! This is the main way my brother and I talk to each other.

13. Raising Arizona
12. Have heard it, but I can't place it.
11. I think this one is Finding Nemo
10. Fletch
9. Raising Arizon
8. Gosh! I know this one! Can't think!
7. Princess Bride
6. Fletch
5. O Brother, Where Art Thou
4. Have heard it, but can't remember it.
3. O Brother, Where Art Thou
2. Star Wars
1. The Holy Grail

Darn. Now I will be on a quest. A quest to get my swamp back!

Couldn't help myself. I had to look the rest up.

12. What About Bob
8. Oscar
4. Runaway Bride

13 - raising arizona. "i'm talkin wife swappin....

12 - what about bob - "baby steps...."

11 - nemo - P. Sherman, 42 Wallaby Way, Sydney.

10 - never could gain interest in Chevy Chase

9 - Raising Arizona. No other movie could have such a ridiculously good line. "You want to find an outlaw, hire an outlaw. You want to find a Dunkin' Donuts, call a cop. "

8 - don't know

7 - Princess Bride - my name is Inago Montoya

6 - don't know

5 - keep those coen bros coming.

4 - don't know.

3 - Oh Brother - Well Pete, I figured it should be the one with the capacity for abstract thought. But if that ain't the consensus view, then hell, let's put it to a vote.

2 - don't know.

1 - The MP and Holy Grail - Please! This is supposed to be a happy occasion. Let's not bicker and argue over who killed who.

Is #8 from the movie "Oscar"? Tim Curry plays , "Dr. Pool" and he is complimenting Marissa Tomei on her speech patterns despite her "Heritage"

It's the only one I can think of that would be close. I freaking love that movie

Okay, so I'm lame at these things. But do I win a prize if I can name the book that your "kindred spirit" phrase comes from? (My beloved Anne of Green Gables).

OK, I know I'm a sister and not eligible. However, I just can't help displaying my knowledge (or insanity, whichever the case may be).

13. Raising Arizona
12. What about Bob?
11. Finding Nemo (which I didn't know until reading the comments - which surprises me since my kids watch it all the time)
10. Fletch - one of the greatest "one liner" movies of all time. We could make a list of the greatest lines from just this movie.
9. Raising Arizona
8. Oscar (not so well known, but one of the funniest movies ever. If you haven't seen it - CHECK IT OUT! Again - just a GREAT one-liner movie! For example - the response the the above quote is "That's what got her into this jam!" Also noteworthy are "Poole was right! You are an ox *and* a moron"
7. Princess Bride (if you don't know this one, you really need to watch more movies.)
6. Fletch
5. O Brother Where Art Thou (intellectual humor at its finest)
4. Runaway Bride
3. O Brother Where Art Thou (good line, but better ones are "You two are just dumber than a bag of hammers"; "My hair!"; "I had to be up at that there crossroads last midnight, to sell my soul to the devil.....Well, ain't it a small world, spiritually speaking. Pete and Delmar just been baptized and saved. I guess I'm the only one that remains unaffiliated."
2. Star Wars (not a great one liner movie, but still one of the greatest movies ever)
1. Monty Python and the Holy Grail

I'd also like to note that honorable mention ought to be given to "Argentina has good beef" and "These mashed potatoes are so creamy".

I have such great memories of playing the quote game around the dinner table. Here are some that you missed:
*Do you know what 'nada' means?"
*Jefe, would you say I have a plethora of pinatas?
*You should see my shoes!
*Gee, I'm real sorry your mom blew up, Ricky.
*And I thought they smelled bad on the outside.

Just to name a few.

Okay, I love movies, and #7 is the only one I got. I can hear it in my head, complete with Mandy Patinkin's accent!

#4 - Runaway Bride

#7 - Princess Bride

I am looking for the movie that goes with this quote "Let me show you my parrots, baby."
