However, the middle level of our home has laminate flooring, so I suited the three oldest kids with pads, pushed the furniture back, rolled up the area rugs and moved anything breakable upstairs. Within a few hours they could zoom around the island like pros--the perfect indoor training track.
You might wonder how the floor withstood such a beating but that laminate flooring is tough. The skate wheels were clear, any marks they left were easily erased with a rag, and the surface withstood the pounding of six heavy skates clattering across it every ten seconds. We ought to be Pergo's new spokesfamily/test house--they should make a commercial about us.
My kids can ever call me uncool again.

Michelle,
The video says it's been set to private. I tried to click on it in my RSS reader and it wouldn't load so I visited your site and it still didn't load.
When I clicked on the video to view it at YouTube it says it's set to private viewing only.
Thought you might like to know.
I want to see it!
:-)
You are the coolest mom. Don't ever let your kids forget it! :)
Can I come over? :-)
That looks like serious 7 year old (or 31 year old) fun!
That looks like fun. We did that with our kids when they were younger.
Spring is just around the corner and then they can take those outside.
Every now and then, it's so nice to know that you've created a memory that, years later, is going to make them smile.
Ok, I was like wow that is awesome, but then when I heard the music playing the kids singing along .... It totally is an indoor rink!!!
That makes you a totally rockin mom!
We used to skate in our basement, too. That looks like a ton of fun!
I do think Pergo is missing a great marketing opportunity!
Hey Scribbit!
muchos thanks for making my site your site of the week!
Have a lovely weekend!

You are the coolest mom! :D
OK, tell your kids the bloggers think you are the coolest mom ever. (Like they'll believe it!) Takes me back to my childhood when my family lived in a former hardware store for a while (long, weird story). My best friend and I would roller skate all over the part that used to be a hardware store. It was great, especially when it was cold out!
Yup. You are officially the coolest mom ever! I wonder if we could build a skate rink into our new home?
Hmmm...
Video was a good idea. Next time when you here the chorus of "Aw you never let us do anything..." you can say, "Shall I roll the footage?"
That's pretty spiffy. Thing is, they'll remember that their whole lives. Whenever we had crazy ideas and enacted them with our girls, those invariably are the things they remember all these years later.
They still bring up the time when they were little, and all of us in our pajamas, opened the fold out couch, ordered pizza, made popcorn and watched Peter Pan on VHS. It was a spur of the moment thing on a really cold Georgia evening, and one of many they still talk about.
My Younger Brother had the good fortune of being small when we lived in a house with hardwood floors and a loop through almost the entire house. On rainy days he would have his tricycle in there, zooming lap after lap after lap.
Good times, thanks for the reminder.
I've never understood people who treat their houses like museums. Why not let our kids have fun? It's not like we're going to inherit the place.
:-)
that's awesome!!!! you are the coolest mom ever!!
So FUN!! The kids, Hubbers and I go rollerblading every Saturday and it's honks of fun. Good exercise, too, since Idaho is freakin' cold in the winter! Bet Alaska is, too.
OMG! YOU ARE THE COOLEST MOM I KNOW! So, can I send my two rascals over? Promise I'll bring some good snacks!!
Pergo rules (as do you as a mom obviously). We had some in our old apartment. Once we dropped a 5-gallon can of paint on it--just had to wipe up the paint with a towel and we were good to go. No dents, no stains.
