Sack Lunch Ideas: Put First Things First

Sack Lunch Ideas: Breakfast for LunchNothing says cool like doing something off limits--like having dessert first. One of my kids' favorite things for dinner is to have breakfast for dinner. Anything at all: pancakes, waffles, cereal, French toast . . .

So why not surprise your child with breakfast for lunch? The next time you're making up pancakes or French toast or another breakfast delight, make a little extra to freeze and stick in their lunch. An Eggo waffle with jam, a tiny little stack of pancakes with cream cheese and fruit, a "pig in a blanket," breakfast pizza, scrambled eggs in a tortilla, even a cup of cold cereal to munch on straight from the cup would be fun. You could even try the standard PB&J between two pancakes, waffles or French toast and see what the reaction is.

I imagine that the kid who brings Lucky Charms will officially be The Coolest Kid at the Table.

This is a really great and fun idea! I love sending creative lunches to school, but I was about out of ideas! This one is fresh and new!

Thanks for sharing!

This is too funny... my youngest took pancakes for lunch yesterday, and my daughter did the same today. I just cut them up and put them in a microwave-safe container (they have microwaves in the lunch room!) and give them another tiny Tupperware container of syrup -- they love it!

I've been known to make pancakes for supper more than once, usually when I'm desperate for dinner ideas and tired of everything we usually eat. We have a rule here, "The only things you can't eat for breakfast are Lunch and Supper," -- in other words, if it's edible, you can eat it at any time of day. I have no problem with my kids eating leftover pizza for breakfast; there's no reason at all they can't eat "breakfast" for lunch.

Pancake suppers are a lifesaver. I can't remember sending pancakes in lunches though we were big on variety.

We do the breakfast for dinner thing fairly often, and the school did it for 'hot' lunch last Friday - I never thought about sending breakfast items in her lunch before though. It'd be a nice change from bologna sandwiches, I'm sure! Thanks! :)

That's a great idea! I try to vary lunches a bit for my kids. Today they got tortilla wraps. Sometimes they get black beans and corn mixed with a bit of sour cream and lots of cheese.

But awesome you said cream cheese on pancakes and waffles...that's what we do! Fruit and cream cheese!

I do this too. Cookie's favorite is french toast cut in strips with a little cup of syrup to dunk them in.

I'll try this in the packed lunches. At home - I have been known to let them eat dinner for breakfast and breakfast for dinner. Weetabix with ice cold milk is lovely an hour before bed... Cold pizza, curry or even cauliflower cheese straight from the fridge is great for breakfast. All things in moderation of course.

We love breakfast for dinner. Actually, I could eat breakfast foods 3 meals a day and be happy. LOL

My son is a pick eater so once in a while we have what we call "silly dinners" (usually pancakes or waffles for dinner) to give him a break from having to eat things he's not too keen on eating.

When I was growing up, my parents would have breakfast for supper at least once every two weeks. And they would do it up right, too.

Bacon, eggs, sausage, homemade biscuits, the works. AND homemade hash browns.

I loved it, and when we do it in our home, I always think of Mom and Dad.

I hope your daughter gets well soon!

You have a moose? I get that it is a pain, but how cool to see. You do see it, right?

I don't miss taking down the trampoline. Or the snow, or the ice melt. Or winter coats and boots. Or gray.

I love this idea, Michelle. Jeff and I just had pancakes for dinner last week, but I've done it for lunch. Why not? I will now. Thanks!
