I'm Ready for the Holidays Now

Snow in Anchorage, Alaska
Every time I see it snowing my brain remembers an old Inuit adage my husband heard a couple years ago which says, "Big snow, little snow; little snow, big snow" meaning that if the flakes are big the storm will burn itself out quickly but that if the flakes are small, it's going to be an all-day affair and you'd better have your boots and shovels ready.  Those Inuits were onto something because since then I've noticed that this highly scientific meteorological test works.

Sunday morning we woke to snow coming down.  Sometimes the flakes were small, sometimes they were huge but it lasted all day which has lead me to form my own Wise Saying that says: "Big snow, little snow; little snow, big snow; both kinds--hope you've stocked up on milk because you're not going anywhere today."

It makes me want to break out the Christmas music.

If you want a video clip of the heart-stopping action click here (this one's for you Mom) you can hear David in the background, upset because he'd been so excited to shovel the driveway he just couldn't wait for the snow to finish and now it was snowing on top of his work.  He should have listened to the Inuits and saved himself some trouble.

Have you entered this month's Write-Away Contest? The deadline is November 21 and it's going to be good . . .

Snow creates such a wonderful sense of peace. There's nothing better than a snow day at home with the family! Great image. Thanks and happy WW!

There is nothing like a white Christmas. I think it's the quintessential picture we all have in our head.
Not only does it make me want to break out the music but bake and craft all the lovely Christmas goodies. Enjoy your snowflakes.

I'm still enjoying a very colorful fall, but went ahead and loaded the Christmas CDs anyway. I'm in the mood to be patient and wait a while for snow.

OOooo seeing all your snow makes me giddy with excitement!!!!

Oh wow, that is beautiful. We rarely get snow that settles and if it does, then it is only an inch or two.

You get a white christmas! I am so jealous.

How beautiful! I can't imagine having that much snow at this time of year . . .

A white Christmas would be nice, though. :-)

I haven't heard that one. I am going to have to test it out in these parts!

In spite of the fact that I rather dread winter, I love snow. We don't get enough of it here in Missouri these days.

Snow? In November? Oh, that's right. You live in Alaska and I live in Georgia. We wouldn't see snow here until, well, most likely never, but occasionally January or February. However, I remember one very unusual winter that we got snow on December 19 which is my wedding anniversary. It snowed enough that we didn't make it out to eat as planned.

Oh, I *love* the first snow of the year! It's my absolute favorite day, especially when it's already blanketing the ground when you wake up. I'll go running through the house squealing with joy when I wake up to that!

Another thing I noticed about snow: if the sky is orange in the evening, it'll snow that night. It's just the city lights reflecting on the clouds, but I call it a snow sky and it's pretty reliable!

Snow? We have a high of 88 today.

I think I need to move north.

I am soooo jealous! I want snow! Lots and lots of snow! We really need to move because central VA just doesn't get a lot of snow!

My great grandmother always told me small flakes meant a lot of snow. So it isn't just the Inuits that are saying it:)

You know...I have not seen any real snow. But I hope I'd be able to see some one day soon. :D

The Inuit saying is new to me.

The truth is not.

I can think if many beautiful snowfalls with dime-sized flakes floating from the sky.

None of them amounted to more than an inch or so.

It's the small flakes that come down fast and furious that are dangerous.

Great video, by the way. I'm such a sucker for video clips like that. It's so fun to see the real deal.

Too. Much. Snow.

I never ever tire of watching snow fall. I tire of shoveling it... I tire of it freezing into sheets of ice. I tire of it getting brown and yucky with little yellow melted holes in it (yuck), but I never tire of just standing at the window and watching it float down. It's one of the prettiest things to witness, I think.
