The Holiday Spirit

Christmas Lights in Anchorage, AlaskaOur nice neighbors down the street made us look twice when their Christmas lights went up. Santa, Frosty and a random caroler--all hung from the trees reminiscent of a Salem witch hunt hanging tree. Is it me or should we be worried about the people next door? I don't think it's customary to lynch our Christmas friends in effigy and it's downright creepy to see them swinging in the breeze--one has to wonder what would they do with a nativity scene.

Sorry I'm slow with this but Jessica won this week's Saturday Giveaway of a custom framed collage from Imagekind. Congratulations!

:) Maybe they afraid they'll get stolen if they are down on the ground easily accessible! Funny.

Ahahahaha. That is SO funny. I think you should go over there and asking if they'll share a bit of what they're smoking!

Oh, thanks for the laugh. It's hard to figure out what people were thinking!

I thought they looked like they were being hung by the chimney with no care...

Maybe he's a hunter and since he can't be in his tree-stand, he wanted Santa and Frosty in on some of the action?

That's highly disturbing and not at all festive.

There are no words for how odd that is. I would think they were making a statement about their view of Christmas, but they have lights in the traditional places. Bizarre.

Definitely a little odd.

The family across the street from the boy's dorm (our former home) used to put a huge star on their roof every year, but they always got it upside down, so it looked like a gigantic pentagram. The couple go to church, so I don't think it was a statement, but we always wondered...

Yeah, that would make me nervous....very strange indeed!

Ah, that's so funny! My first thought when I saw that picture was "Why did they hang Santa???"

Janet said...

See, now, MY first thought was, "Do they own dogs?" Because one year we put lights on our little "hemlock grove" (3 trees), and the dogs (well, probably just Strider) chewed the cords AND pulled the lights off. However, if they don't own dogs, I would like to award them the Grinch/Scrooge award for Santa Claus abuse. (Frosty not so much.)

Creepy.

That was my first thought upon seeing the picture, before I even read your commentary.

(And what happened to all your snow?!?)

What did they ever do to deserve this??

Is this to avoid moose nibblings?

Patois42 said...

Very funny. I am relieved there isn't a nativity scene.

I noticed someone's lawn today that displayed Santa and Mrs. Claus sitting next to a manger. I thought that was strange, until I saw this picture of your neighbor's lawn. That's just a little scary!

Santa on the rooftop..yes, maybe

Strung up in the trees? I dunno 'bout that.

I'm thinkin' I would have to ask them ....WHY?

Anonymous said...

Do they live up on a hill maybe?...thinking that you may not be able to see their decorations from street level?

Still has me puzzled !

I have no words. That's just kinda weird.

My husband happened to be next to me while I pulled up your blog. He glanced over and saw this pic and lost it - "What the heck is that?" (cracking up)

Seriously, did you ask them about it? That is just a bit strange.

O-kay...are they trying to keep the moose from having unnatural relations with Santa? Truly bizarre...

Um, that isn't Cain's house, is it?
