Sponge Bob and Sponge Bobette Puppets

Sponge Bob and Sponge Bobette PuppetsI'm kind of proud of myself for coming up with this one--our little spongy friends turned out pretty cute and we had a lot of fun putting them together. Meet Sponge Bob and his girlfriend, Sponge Bobette.

Each puppet uses two kitchen sponges--the ones that are about four or five inches long--plus some big googly eyes, yarn and felt for decoration, a stick for a handle and two pipe cleaners for attaching limbs.

We rounded the head on the first sponge with a pair of scissors, then we cut the second sponge in half crosswise (at about the two-thirds point, not quite in equal halves) and then used the smaller piece for some arms and the longer piece to make some legs.

Here's the only part that needs some supervision: using a bamboo skewer or something else pointy poke a hole in each of the limbs then a hole in the body where the limb should attach. Thread half a pipe cleaner through the hole in the body and the hole in the limb, twisting it off in the back to secure it. Repeat for each of the remaining three limbs. (If you don't have pipe cleaners you could try yarn but it might be hard to thread).

Glue the stick in place, decorate your new friend and you've got a jointed puppet that can do a happy, spongy dance. Pretty cute huh?

I find your blog creative.
How you put vote ?
Congrats !

If we were crafty we'd be all over this, because my boys are huge SpongeBob fans. I'm a big barnaclehead, however, and don't have the craft gene. I might let them do this one alone- they're old enough.

Thanks!!

Hello Michelle, I know your name through the interview below. A very fascinating blog profile. Every day since 2006? It shows! It's so interesting. And I congratulate you! Thank you so for stopping by. If you'd care to vote on my blog "Whose Role Is It Anyway?" I write a mini-script once per week with a poll of actors to choose from to play the role; if you're interested! Again, Michelle, it was very nice meeting you. :)) Petra

Those are so cute! My son loves Spongebob. Looks like I'll have to put aside my lack of skills in all things girly and give it a go!

Those ARE cute, and look fairly easy. Meaning, I could possibly pull it off :) Thanks for the idea.

My daughter and I always do crafts. She's 10 so this will be easy to master - we'll try it.

Fun indeed. I knew that hot glue gun would come in handy sometime soon.

This time I plan to make sure that the gun has an iron clad cage around it though.
Cheers

Yep, the kids would love this one. Of course, they'd end up in the pool, so I may have to get some heavy duty glue.

I see Bob doesn't mind going out with women who are taller than he is. That's cool.

Great craft idea! I'll have to remember that next time I buy a bulk pack of sponges at costco. Good idea for a rainy day too. :)
