Purple Cows

Purple CowsYou may have heard of these drinks before but if you have kids around for the holidays you might think of celebrating with these tasty shakes.

I cannot tolerate anything grape flavored (don't ask, it goes back to a vicious grape fluoride treatment when I was a kid--the kind with those trays full of plasti-goop?) but real grape is wonderful and these go down so nice and smooth.

1/2 cup 100 percent grape juice
1/2 cup milk
2 large scoops vanilla ice cream

And the rest is pretty intuitive--just mix up the ingredients in a blender and serve. My kids get a kick out of mixing the drinks themselves. For another great shake try the Diablo Verde shakes I posted over a year ago which I LOVE.

LOL! With me it was grape gum. I got sick on it and I can't handle artificial grape flavored anything!

Real grape juice is great, we'll have to try them.

Hmmm......these sound great. I have been craving something to drink for days....I must have been waiting for this post. I don't like grape juice but I think I would like this.

I am like Alexis. With me it was Cheracol. I liked it as a kid but grew up hating all cherry flavors.

Those look so yummy!! My mom fixed us purple cows just like root beer floats - ice cream scooped into a cup with grape juice poured over.

Mmmmmm, now this sounds good. I would never have thought about using juice like that in a shake, but it sure sounds good. Will have to give it a try. Thanks for sharing!

It took years before I could even get close to the smell of grape after getting sick after drinking some as a kid. The smell just made me think of that moment. Now I'm back to loving it!

Perhaps I can get the kids to drink these during our New Year's Eve celebration.

I love grape juice. I used to get grape flavored smoothies at Smoothie King so this sounds good to me.

Purple cows here are just vanilla ice cream with grape soda (just like a root beer float.) Thinking one sounds good about now!

My Grandpa had a poem:

I never saw a purple cow
I never hope to see one
But if the truth must sure be told
I'd rather see than be one

I also don't like grape flavoring. Or watermelon flavoring. The real thing is SO much better.

I kind of want to try the Diablo ones, since we live in the shadow of Mt. Diablo.

But the grape ones are so EASY. Mmmm.

We have something similar we make every Sunday morning for breakfast. I use oj concentrate along with milk and ice cubes (and a few other things). Just like those lovely Orange Julius back in the day!
