He brought the boys gifts: homemade crossbows.
Rigged with elastic tubing or cording or something really sproingy they're the sling shots that are capable of launching our minivan into orbit. Of course the boys have been putting them to good using everything in sight as projectiles: paper balls, Jedi action figures, cupcakes, the neighbor's cat . . .
I've told them that with great power comes great responsibility but they're not getting the picture so I think I'll put them to work with a bucket of rocks and make them sit by the front door to guard my crab apple tree from marauding moose. That ought to teach them--and the moose.

Aw, Luke. He just might be the coolest uncle. Of all time.
Those moose (and the neighbor's cat) better watch out!
That Uncle Luke--I don't dare show this weaponry to my boys--they have already wreaked havoc with some rogue marshmallow shooters...
And the video--hysterical!
Blessings!
what a cool gift! he is the best uncle ever :)
Yeah me and Curtis had a great time making those. The night Becca and I left for the airport a moose got into Mom's bushes and Me, Curtis, and a Box of paint-balls turned the moose's back-side pink. (this is the Alaskan-moose equivalent to a scarlet letter A.)
THAT IS SO AWESOME! my boys would absolutely freak over the coolness. what an uncle, huh?
Totally something my husband would be all over. If I were to show him this post, that is.
oh dear...I fell for the post on the duct tape whip like Indiana Jones's...
I now cannot resist "Uncle Luke's homemade crossbow." What am I thinking?
My boys would love Uncle Luke. We have an arsenal of wooden weaponry in our house. Never ceases to amaze me what they can create out of wood scraps and cardboard.
I love homemade crossbows! What a unique gift and one step up from a sling shot. ;)
That video is hilarious! I adore stop-motion animation, definitely a favorite.
I hope those new windows in the addition are crossbow bolt-resistant...
Haha! So how *did* he make it through security? :)
I love his ten things list! I always enjoyed garage sales and flea markets around DC in the fall and spring. Really cool stuff lurking in collector's attics and basements there.
Did Uncle Luke decorate the crossboys himself? They're AWESOME.
That video is fantastic! I want to watch it over and over.
the crossbow is my weapon of choice, when it comes to archery...
I'm loving the decorations on it. Can't get any more original than that, how adorable. I think hand made gifts are the best, even if its a toy you know your boys would wreak havoc with. I know mine would.
Ah, uncles. So good for that kind of thing. Crossbows, rubberband guns, potato cannons...
