Candy Bugs

And the march of death continues . . .

I'm still pretty horizontal with this stupid head cold. Nothing like having so much fluid packed in your skull to be able to feel the roots of your teeth ache. Tylenol is my friend.

Which is why I was glad I'd made this little purchase at the store last week. I bought a bag of mixed flavor LifeSavers and some licorice ropes and let the kids make up their own candy centipedes, candy butterflies and other candy creepy crawlies.

In fact the ropes and holes inspired some interesting free form art such as a candy cat o' nine tails. Because nothing says sweetness like being flogged with sugar, right?

So if you're looking for a creative and fun little project give it a try and see what you can come up with.

I'm so sorry.. sinus infections are the WORST. Remember.. it takes at least two back-to-back rounds of antibiotics to knock them out; my ENT said it's because the infection is inside the sinus cavity (bone), and one round never quite totally wipes it out. But the candy creations idea is a great one... my boy will LOVE it! It's amazing that you can still post such fun things when you feel so bad... I hope you're all better soon!

I hope you feel better soon. I despise sinus infections. Good luck with the running, it's hard to get excited about it after a cold.

I had that cold/flu - I thought my sinuses were going to explode and my teeth were going to fall out. It does end eventually.

There have been several studies saying that antibiotics are not beneficial for sinus infections, by the way. I've never taken any, and mine have all gone away. Use the Neti pot instead.

Cute and open-ended craft - my favorite kind! I hope you're getting enough rest. It takes a while to kick sinus troubles. Do you have a Neti Pot? My doc highly recommends it.

Michelle,

Still hoping that you will be feeling better soon! Hang in there, I know having a cold with sinus infection is the absolute worse, feels like your head is inside a rather large water balloon??

Love the arts and crafts ideas with the life savers! Will have to try this one because I have little ones and stringing lifesaves on licorice looks easy enough!

Thanks for the well-wishes. Last night I was at least able to get some sleep. I'm odd in that I hating taking any kind of medication and had held off even taking Tylenol until I couldn't sleep at all from the aching which is when I realized I didn't care how many pills I took. EVer since it's been great :)

And actually, Sub Corresp, I'm with you on that--I resist antibiotics unless the kids can't kick something. YOu know, running a fever for an extended period or bleeding from the eyes :)

I've heard it's much better to try and kick it on your own if you can. Who knows.

As they say, "I'm not dead yet."

How very cool that looks! I will eat one of the ones my kid's create as a sacrifice for you to get better. 'Cause I'm kind like that.

Ugh! I've had that sinus infection--which led to an ear infection. I'm sorry you've been feeling rotten. So glad the Tylenol helped.

Meanwhile, you're still able to retain your craftiness. How do you do it? I think I'd be afraid to unleash the sugar monster in my daughter when I'm already feeling under the weather! :)

Flogged with sugar -- brings up quite a visual for me! Cute craft idea.

I hope your cold goes away.

It's the worst when you get a cold during the summer, it always seems to make it even harder to breathe. Propping myself up to sleep seems to help a little. Hope you feel better soon Michelle!

Very cute idea the "candy bug" is! Next time I go to the store I'm going to get all I need to the boys to make it, they love this kind of thing as well as the candy you used, thanks!
