Hina Dolls

I saw this idea at my friend Jessica's terrific blog: Zakka Life and filed it away for fun this summer with Lillian.

Hina DollsOf course our dolls aren't exactly culturally correct or artistically worthy or anything, they were just fun to make. You see Lily's set up top and here you see mine. Can you tell what my characters are supposed to be? Let's just say it took me a bit of repainting to get them even this normal looking. A painter I am not.

Hina DollsIf you can't tell what they're made of it's just those little wooden eggs you can get at craft stores for under a dollar--they fit perfectly in your hand and remind me of Weeble Wobbles. Here's another way of painting them that is also pretty darn cute that was featured on Craftzine.

Sponsored by Pink and Blue for unique baby gifts to make them "ooh" and "ahh."

I know, I know! I won't give away the answer. Clue: Sam the Sham.

Sam the Sham? I was thinking forest, two errant kids, grandmotherly witch and unidentified wolf-like animal.

Regardless of their identity, I think they're adorable. If one was so inclined (and not as cheap as me), you could get the little wooden eggcups for display.

Ha! It's Little Red Riding Hood!

Eggs always have a special place around here and unbreakable makes them all the more popular [I hope]

Love this idea. My kids fell in love with painting years ago and I still have yet to pry the brush from their multi-colored hands. We'll do this as a summer-time craft for sure.

And as always, thanks for sharing! You inspire!

A baby, a walrus, a policeman, and a woman with a red scarf holding a chick?

I could totally tell who they were suppose to be! (The red girl with the hood and basket were a dead give-away!)

Looks like Jill before me got it too! I knew there was a grandma, and then the wolf, and then that little girl with the red hood, and the woodcutter... VERY cute! What fun you'll have doing the story with them...

those are adorable! I was wondering if they were the nesting type of dolls. Some other project, perhaps.
