An Introduction to Scribbit

Michelle Mitchell at ScribbitWelcome to Scribbit, a blog about motherhood in Alaska. I'm Michelle Mitton and I've been married to Andrew since 1992, we have four children (Lillian age 7, David age 11, Spencer age 13 and Grace age 16) and I post about life here in Alaska along with anything else I happen to enjoy.

I publish recipes on Sundays, household tips or crafts on Wednesdays and product reviews and giveaways on Saturday. Other days find me publishing stories about our Alaskan adventures, thoughts on parenting, tips for building your own blog and an occasional interview with a celebrity, author or guest blogger (don't miss the interview I had with Patrick Dempsey or Mary Lou Retton).

You can read my ebook Blogging in Pink: A Woman's Guide which can be downloaded for free for pdf format or through Amazon.com for a digital reader format.

If you've want to know what my voice sounds like The Anchorage Daily News posted a list of winners in their 2007 Creative Writing competition where I won in the categories of Blogs and Short Stories and they have an audio clip of me reading a post. I've also done radio interviews at Behind the Blog, and video interviews, a sample of which you can see here at 5 Minutes for Mom.

  1. Yay for you! Congratulations and well wishes. I love the "Florida" story. Tell David it was almost 100 degrees here today and he certainly doesn't want to send his daddy here right now!

  6. PS - HAHAHAHAHA!! I just read the Florida story! Oh my goodness (shaking head). Well, if it's any consolation, when Hannah was in the first grade, they were required to write and illustrate a short story based on something they had done over the weekend. When the teacher handed me Hannah's work at her parent/teacher conference she said, "You sure do have a great time as a family!" The sad thing is, Hannah had MADE UP almost all of her stories. I guess Hannah was just too embarrassed to admit how truly boring we are!

  41. First, congrats on the contest! Second, that story is HI-larious. And I have a similar one.

I went to "back to school" night and MY David's teacher mentioned casually that it must have been neat to live in Spain.

    Um. Come again?

Yes, David had told her that he speaks Spanish and had lived in Spain. WTH?

I wasn't nearly as creative as you about approaching him with it, though! Too funny.

  44. A belated congratulations! I enjoyed hearing you read your Florida piece. You sound like you look ... isn't that a strange thing to say? I guess what I mean is - you remind me, physically, of the lead actress on Men in Trees - and you sound a little like her too. So it all fits, because it's what my brain expected to hear.

Anyhoo, way to go! And I'm looking forward to your redesign.

  45. Grace is 16?! Wow, time does fly!
